The Scottish Streaker Championship was held at Chanonry SC on June 27 and 28. Chanonry is a small club in a stunning location on the north shore of the Moray Firth looking south towards Inverness airport.

The sailing area gets clean wind and is relatively sheltered! Jim Sinclair, last year's winner is still injured so a new name on the trophy was assured. The quality of the fleet was maintained by the husband and wife team of Ian and Lucy Priest from Ripon SC making the long journey north. The forecast for the weekend was for 12 mph increasing to high teens gusting to mid 20s both days. This caused some of the local boats to pull out. We were sharing the event with the Solo class.

Race 1 started in less wind than forecast with a long beat against the tide. A windward / leeward course was set. With pin end bias everyone got cleanly away and everyone went hard right to get out of the tide. Ian reached the windward mark alongside David Parkin (Aberdeen & Stonehaven YC) who hit the mark and did a turn. Close behind were Lucy and Katie Masterton (St Mary's Loch SC) followed by Chanonry SCs Dave Allan and Helen Morgan. The run was relatively uneventful. Going up the next beat the wind died. Ian and Lucy got through the line and were able to head inshore out of the tide. The rest were unable to make progress for about 10 minutes. Once through the line everyone went inshore except Dave A who went out to be rewarded by the wind coming back from that side elevating him to 3rd at the windward mark. Meanwhile Lucy and Ian were having their own battle with Lucy winning out. At the final leeward mark the Priest led from Dave A who was 20m ahead of Katie with David P a further 20m behind and Helen just behind. The wind now suddenly increased to 15mph. Katie went left thinking that end of the line was now closer, Dave A went up the middle and David went right. At the finish Lucy beat Ian but close behind them there were 3 hoots very close together, no one knowing who beat who!

Race 2. The wind was now high teens with gusts well into the 20s and waves to match. At the windward mark David lead from the Priests but underestimated the tide so bailed out rounding last. The downwind was crazy! I'm not too sure what happened after this. By the finish Lucy beat Ian with David close behind and Katie in 4th. Both locals retired and went ashore after a number of capsizes.

Race 3 was even windier with remarkably big waves. Inverness airport recorded a steady F5 with F7 gusts. No one wanted to risk close manoeuvring and all got away cleanly. David was clear at the windward mark which he didn't hit and sailed away to a comfortable win with enough lead to wear round rather than gybe. Ian was second. Lucy had a long capsize and was 3rd followed by Katie.

On Sunday it was if anything windier and with the tide flooding against the wind the waves were even bigger. Katie decided to use her Wave sail and the locals decided not to sail which seemed very sensible. The course was now a triangle / sausage. At the top of the beat Ian and David were alongside each other but significantly oversold allowing Lucy to catch up. It all became a bit of a blur thereafter. David went down the mine then filled up when the next wave broke over him so retired. The remaining 3 managed to finish with Ian beating Lucy followed by Katie. The streakers greatfully accepted the plan to abandon at this point. This meant that the new Scottish Streaker champion was Lucy Priest filled by Ian and David.

The Solos decided to have a further race, which led to a degree of carnage which is well described in their report.
