29er EuroCup 2026 Aarhus - Day 1

by 29er Class 5 Jun 12:11 PDT 5-7 June 2026

Four races were completed on the opening day of the EuroCup in Aarhus, under extremely shifty and unstable wind conditions across the race area. One race was abandoned midway due to a major wind shift that compromised fairness on the course.

The day initially started with near-perfect sailing conditions, but the breeze soon became stronger and increasingly unpredictable than forecasted, creating a demanding environment for both sailors and race management.

Racing took place on a single course for two fleets, with approximately 20 volunteers supporting operations on the water. The use of remote-controlled Smartmark buoys helped manage the rapidly changing conditions efficiently. Multiple capsizes were recorded throughout the day, reflecting the complexity of the wind patterns across the bay.

Around ten crews also had the opportunity to train on venue from Sunday, gaining valuable local knowledge ahead of the opening races.

IRO Peter Lübeck commented: "Difficult day for everyone because of the shifty winds on the bay of Aarhus. But in my opinion we have been able to do fair races."
