iQFOiL Youth & Junior International Games at Torbole, Lake Garda - Day 4

by iQFOiL Class Association 8 May 01:41 PDT 4-9 May 2026

Storms interrupt racing after brief return of the Ora as only the U19 Men complete one Upwind Sprint

After a strong opening day and two consecutive days without racing due to unsettled weather and the absence of the classic thermal breeze Ora, the desire to get back on the water in Torbole was extremely high. The iQFOiL International Games Youth & Junior, organized by Circolo Surf Torbole on behalf of the Italian Sailing Federation with the iQFOiL Youth & Junior Class, finally resumed, even if only partially, in another weather-affected day.

The Ora filled in lightly from the morning, and the Race Committee launched racing as soon as the wind reached the minimum threshold, sending the U19 Men on the water for Upwind Slalom races. However, the day came to an early stop. A thunderstorm to the northwest of Torbole, in the mountains, shut down the wind and brought rain over the racecourse, interrupting the schedule after three U19 Men's heats, which were fortunately completed.

During the afternoon, the fleet waited until late in the hope that, with the return of sunshine, the breeze would rebuild. However, the nearly 200 sailors from 21 nations, together with their coaches, remained ashore as the wind never was strong enough to resume racing. It has been a challenging week so far for the iQFOiL Youth & Junior International Games, with particularly unstable weather. After the standstill on Days 2 and 3, today's partial restart still delivered some spectacular moments, with the dramatic backdrop of the Ponale cliffs, the lake shifting colors before and after the storms, and foils ready to take off whenever the wind allowed.

With five races now completed, the U19 Men's provisional standings are led by Gustaw Trybek (POL), despite an OCS disqualification today. Trybek maintains a 2.67-point lead over France's Titouan Dizet, who sits second overall. Dizet holds a narrow 1.33-point advantage over the Netherlands' Finn Brüll, winner of today's race and third overall, who in turn leads France's Louan Gouault by two points. In fifth the Israeli Kfir Nov, and then two Italians Lorenzo Maroadi, who finished third in today's race, and Luca Pacchiotti is seventh overall and the top U17 sailor in the fleet, with a fifth place in today's race, in eight is Idan Lichtenstein (ISR) and in ninth Marius Polo (FRA), while Davide Scarlata from Circolo Surf Torbole, sits in tenth position.

With no additional races completed, the standings remain unchanged in the U19 Women, U17 Men, and U17 Women fleets.

In the U19 Women, after four races, Salomé Simon (FRA) leads with a 3-point margin over compatriot Garance Chatelier-Daisay (FRA) in second. Chatelier-Daisay holds a further 3-point advantage over Italy's Vittoria Marconi, who sits third. In fourth Alba Klein (ISR), then Pauline Hermitant (FRA) and Sophie Clark (GBR). Then Italy's Marta Valente in seventh and Ginevra Giunti in eighth. To close the top 10, two French athletes, Eleonore Lambeaux and Pauline Lebec.

In the U17 Girls, with three races completed, the standings remain very tight at the top. Michelle Urzykowski (POL) leads ahead of compatriot Kalina Szostek (POL) on equal points, separated only by countback. Anna Jannieke Korevaar (NED) sits third, just one point ahead of Italy's Elisa Bruno in fourth. Elettra Fulgenzi is fifth, Marta Gajdzinska (POL) sixth, Mies Dijksterhuis in seventh. Two other Polish athletes are are eight and ninth, Martinique Suchocka and Martyna Figura, with Sum Yee Cheung from Honk Kong closing the top 10.
