Beastie Tour 2026 makes it to Thorpe Bay Yacht Club
by David Maynard 22 Apr 08:33 PDT
Thorpe Bay Yacht Club put on a fantastic 'start of the season' event for the Beastie Tour. The weather was great, 45 contestants had entered, nine Optimist boats, six RS Feva XLs, nine RS Tera Pro, eleven RS Tera Sport and ten ILCA 4 & 6 boats.
Challenge of the day was to finish all four races by 4pm, but the wind was not co-operating at all.
The first race went according to plan, but there were big holes in the wind around the course. For race 2 there was hardly any wind at the start line, but 13kts at the windward mark. By race 3 the tide had changed, with some of the earlier boats able to catch some wind as they headed inland, but some of the later boats struggled to manage the first leg.
Race 4 was cancelled and everyone headed for home. There were a lot of cold sailors especially when the sun went behind the clouds the chill factor went through even the hardest of sailors. Hot food at the club was very welcome, whilst waiting for the results of the day.

Next event will be the 16th May at Dabchicks Sailing Club raced under PY General Handicap - this event is designed to offer short, sharp, high turnover racing for young sailors.
