After the first day of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía by Fregus Hotels, Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona (ESP) are leading the regatta. Tied for first place are Portugal's Diogo Costa and Carolina João (POR), while in third place are the Italians, Elena Berta and Giulio Calabrò (ITA).

The first day of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía starts with the soft breeze. 63 teams, split into two groups, start racing a little bit after the scheduled time, as it was shifty and too light on the race course. The first race was a good opening for Nitai Hasson and Noga Tiano, as they are step by step returning to the level they are used to racing. Giacomo Ferrari and Alessandra Dubbini won their fleet, showing that they are still in good shape after the successful silver medal in Europeans.

We are really happy to kick off the regatta with a nice first day. The racing course was very difficult today, very tricky. I think we follow our instincts; this is what works best for us, especially in the first race, we managed to win it. I think that was the key for us today, said Nitai Hasson, who is currently 8th.

I think slowly, slowly, we are making progress. It's a long progress but we are committed to this. We are trying to do our best to improve every day, and it's really, really fun for us to see some results finally after a tough winter, he adds.

Trofeo Princesa Sofía is led by Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona. The Spanish team started the racing with a UFD flag, finishing the day with second and first place.

Unfortunately, we didn't have the best start; we had a UFD in the first race, but we managed to do two good races after. A second and a race win, so good. It was a very difficult day. We had a lot of shifty wind direction and intensity between 5 and 18 knots. One of the most difficult days on the water, but a great start, and I'm so happy to be back racing, said Marta Cardona.

The best sailing performance was shown today by Elena Berta and Giulio Calabro (ITA), who have the lowest net points after today. Italians finishing their races in 3rd, 3rd, and 4th positions, showing amazing skills in every condition.

After the second race, the wind definitely changed. Direction came more from offshore, and the wind increased to over 15 knots. Simon Diesch and Anna Markfort (GER) showed that they are unstoppable in strong winds, winning the race with a margin.

Worth highlighting is both Portuguese teams, who were sailing at the top of two races today. Diogo Costa and Carolina Joao are second, as Beatriz Gago and Rodolfo Pires are fourth.
