55th Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels crowns its first champions

by Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofía 29 Mar 11:33 PDT 27 March - 4 April 2026

The ORC, One Design and Hansa 303 classes ended their participation in the 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels with a day to spare. A strong northerly wind in the Bay of Palma in the final day forced the race committee to cancel the scheduled programme. The Olympic classes will begin competing on Monday, 30 March.

The standings for all non-Olympic classes in the 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels were finalised at the end of the penultimate day. The wind blew too strongly on Sunday in the Bay of Palma, so the event concluded with three full days of competition for the Hansa 303, two for the One Design classes and one of the two scheduled for ORC.

In ORC 0-2, the title went to Haltbroken, skippered by Germany's Michael Berghorn; in ORC 3, to Bitxet, skippered by Menorca's Antoni Cavaller; in ORC 4-5, to Lampo Rosso, skippered by Joan Jofre; and in Sportboat, to Abracadabra, skippered by Mark Sadler. Among the One-Designs, Joakim Sundberg's Trinity won the Cape 31 class; Virginia Álvarez's Stella was the best in the 6 Metre Open; and Pete Cooke's Meteor Racing triumphed in the Dragon category.

Marking the historic return of adapted sailing to the Sofía, the event brought together 22 Hansa 303 teams at the Port d'Andratx base. The overall victory went to the class world champion, Poland's Piotr Cichocki, followed by the world runner-up, Portugal's João Pinto, and Spain's Pau Toni Homar, who was also crowned winner of the Copa de España de Hansa 303 (Spanish Hansa 303 Cup).

The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Sala Magna of the Real Club Náutico de Palma and was attended by Rafael Gil, president of the RCNP; Ramón Picó, president of the Club Nàutic Arenal; Juan Miguel Catalá, president of the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa; Juan Escandell, representing the FBV; and Antoni Castell, cruising committee member of the RCNP

The 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels will continue tomorrow with the start of the competition for the Olympic classes, which will take place at the venues of the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, Es Portitxol and the Club Nàutic S'Arenal.

The 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels is organised by Bahía Activa — the foundation formed by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Club Nàutic S'Arenal, the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and the Balearic Sailing Federation — and is supported by World Sailing. The event is co-financed by the Balearic Islands Government's Sustainable Tourism Tax fund and sponsored by the Mallorca Responsible Tourism Foundation.
