The Mallorca Sailing Centre Regatta now gives way to the Sofía

Palma Bay was hit by strong winds during the final day of the Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta, meaning the results from the previous day stood. The next event in the Bay of Palma will be the Sofía, which will bring together the ten Olympic sailing classes from 27 March to 4 April.
The Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta was forced to call off racing due to strong winds in the Bay of Palma. Following an opening day with light breezes and a second day of unstable but sailable conditions, the fleet of over 300 boats representing 41 nations was forced to remain ashore due to strong winds in the Bay of Palma. The event concluded with the results from the first two days, comprising four races in the ILCA 6, ILCA 7 and 49erFX classes, five in the Nacra 17 and six in the 49er.
Mallorcan Paula Barceló and Canarian María Cantero were crowned champions in the highly competitive 49erFX class, which brought together around fifty boats. The reigning world champions finished their campaign with two race wins, a fourth and a third place, prevailing in the play-off against Canadians Gergina and Antonia Lewin-Lafrance and Hong Kong's Emily Grace Polson and Tiffany Mak.
The 49ers were the most active class of the event, managing to complete six of the nine scheduled races. Victory went to the Americans Nevin Snow and Ian MacDiarmid, five points ahead of the Swiss pair Sebastien Scheiter and Arno De Pkanta, and seven points ahead of the Polish duo Dominik Buksak and Mateusz Gwozdz.
In the ILCA 6 class, Ireland's Eve McMahon secured victory, finishing five points ahead of India's Nethra Kumanan and ten points ahead of Belgium's Emma Plasschaert.
In the ILCA 7 class, the leader from the previous two days, Italy's Dimitri Peroni, also won, securing the largest lead of the entire fleet: 17 points ahead of Ireland's Fiachra McDonell and 20 ahead of Israel's Reem Pulci.
Finally, in the Nacra 17 class, the Argentinians Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco came out on top, five points ahead of the Dutch pair Willemijn Offerman and Scopio Houtman, and 13 points ahead of the Austrians Laura Farese and Matthäus Zöchling.
Spanish Cup
In addition to the titles in the five participating classes, the Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta also saw the 2026 Spanish Cup for the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 classes up for grabs. In addition to the overall event title, Paula Barceló and María Cantero won the Spanish Cup in the 49erFX category, followed by Patricia Suárez and Melania Henke (seventh overall) and Alicia Fras and Elena Barrio (thirteenth). In the 49er class, Conrad Konitzer and Antonio Torrado emerged as the top Spanish sailors, finishing eighth overall; they were followed by Martín and Jaime Wizner (twentieth) and Pol and Alex Marsans (thirty-eighth).
In the Nacra 17 class, Joan Cardona and Nicole Van der Velden won the Spanish Cup by finishing fourth overall, just one point off the podium, followed by Daniel and Nora García de la Casa (sixteenth).
Both the Bahía Activa Foundation and the two clubs organising the event expressed their satisfaction. Ferran Muniesa, manager of Club Nàutic Arenal, explained at the awards ceremony: "There has been a great atmosphere. As this is a training regatta, people are very proactive and compete in a more relaxed manner. The first day was very good, the second a little more challenging on the water, and today it wasn't possible, but we decided not to take risks that could jeopardise any team's participation in the Sofía".
Switching to Sofia mode
With the MSC now over, the Bay of Palma is being reconfigured to host the 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels from 27 March to 4 April. The first scoring race for the 2026 Sailing Grand Slam brings together the ten Olympic disciplines, adding to the MSC participants the 470 Mixed, the men's and women's iQFOiL, and the men's and women's Formula Kite. An impressive line-up of over 800 teams and more than 1,200 sailors from 62 nations will turn Mallorca into the epicentre of world Olympic sailing.
The Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta is organised by Club Nàutic Arenal and Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the Balearic Sailing Federation and the Bahía Activa Foundation.
The 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels is organised by Bahía Activa (the foundation formed by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Club Nàutic Arenal, the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and the Balearic Sailing Federation) and is supported by World Sailing. The event is co-financed by the Balearic Islands Government's Sustainable Tourism Tax fund and sponsored by the Mallorca Responsible Tourism Foundation.
