As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, there is renewed momentum to invest in America's infrastructure and celebrate the outdoor experiences that connect families and communities. Following President Trump's State of the Union address, the recreational boating industry is encouraged by the administration's continued focus on economic growth, American manufacturing and policies that support working families and small businesses.
As highlighted during the President's remarks, the passage and implementation of the "One Big Beautiful Bill" marks an important step toward strengthening the nation's economic foundation. For the recreational boating industry — a uniquely American sector where 95 percent of boats sold in the United States are made in the United States and 93 percent of boat builders are small businesses — a pro-growth tax policy is essential to long-term success.
The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index February reading offered a mixed but instructive snapshot of the American consumer. The overall index edged up 2.2 points to 91.2, a modest improvement from January's revised 89.0, but the details matter more than the headline, particularly for discretionary sectors such as boating. The Present Situation Index fell 1.8 points to 120, indicating consumers feel slightly worse about current conditions than in January. The Expectations Index rose to 72. While directionally welcome, it remains below 80 for the 13th consecutive month, a level economists often associate with recession risk. Consumers continue to feel uneasy about the direction of the economy over the next six months, and that uncertainty can temper willingness to spend on discretionary purchases.
Meanwhile, MasterCraft (NASDAQ: MCFT) announced a strategic partnership with Yellow Sun Marine, designating the store as an authorized MasterCraft dealership in Turks & Caicos. As part of this collaboration, Wake to Wake, Yellow Sun Marine's sister company, is transitioning its charter fleet exclusively to MasterCraft towboats, elevating the region's on-water experiences.
Further north, Canadian marine technology company iNav4U today announced the launch of its subsidiary based in Norway, marking the company's formal expansion into the broader Scandinavian market and establishing its operational footprint across North America and Europe. The new subsidiary will serve Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland, bringing Zora 3.0, the company's next-generation open operating system for yachts, to one of the world's most technologically advanced boating regions. The move represents a significant milestone in iNav4U's global growth strategy.
Recent acquisitions include Malibu Boats (Nasdaq: MBUU), a leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of a diverse range of recreational powerboats and marine-services, who announced that it has acquired Saxdor Yachts, a leading European designer and manufacturer of premium adventure dayboats and one of the world's fastest-growing boat brands, for approximately EUR 150 million (USD $175 million), representing a valuation of approximately 7.2x estimated EBITDA1 for the twelve months ending March 31.
Partnerships involve GOST (Global Ocean Security Technologies), a world leader in marine security, tracking, monitoring and video surveillance systems, announcing that it has partnered with fleet-integrated charting and navigational leader Canyon Runner to offer customers access to elevated navigational, weather data and fishing intel such as current and forecasted catches of targeted species-specific locations. In concert with Canyon Runner, through their CR Map powered by Viam, GOST customers will have access to active weather radar overlay, NOAA charts, and sea surface temperature data, directly through their Specter mobile-friendly website.
Following the recent launch of its first sailboat, Aquila Catamarans has added eight new dealers representing its sailing segment. These join Aquila's expansive network of over 100 dealers across the world. The 50 Sail is Aquila's first sailboat model which was launched at the Miami International Boat Show. It will next be showcased at the International Multihull Show, France, 22-26 April, marking her European debut. Aquila's expanding Sail range will also feature the 44 Sail and flagship 65 Sail, due to launch 2026 and 2027 respectively.
After one of the most severe winters in recent years, March will bless harbors and communities across the United States with a month of benign conditions, at least as they relate to so-called "sunny day" flooding. NOAA is predicting that such coastal flooding is possible in only five harbors across the entire country: Boston, Massachusetts; Kings Point, NY; Galveston Bay, Texas; South Beach, Oregon; and Toke Point, Washington. While higher high tides (and lower low tides) can be expected on and around the full moon on March 3 and the new moon on March 18, most harbors are not forecast to experience flooding during these periods. As always, if a storm happens to occur around these high-water days, known as spring tides, it may lead to increased coastal erosion and flooding.
