Tartan Yachts, a leading manufacturer of luxury American-built yachts, announced that a definitive agreement has been reached to transition ownership and operations to a new ownership group composed of manufacturing professionals with decades of industry experience, including longtime Tartan partner, Jon Duer, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer. The deal provides the new ownership with company assets and will allow Tartan Yachts to continue the tradition of producing high-quality, well-regarded sailboats in northeastern Ohio.
Tartan Yachts began in 1961 and achieved fame for attractive, high-performing designs and for being on the forefront of technology. The company was one of the first boatbuilders to embrace fiberglass hulls and has won awards and accolades for cruising and racing models throughout the years. In recent years, the company has continued to lead the industry, embracing carbon fiber masts and superior production techniques that result in yachts that are stronger, lighter, and more durable.
Duer has supplied standing and running rigging to Tartan Yachts for more than two decades as owner of Great Lakes Rigging in nearby Painesville, Ohio. He is supported by a seasoned team committed to the success of the business.
We brought together a highly experienced team with both the technical and financial strength required to ensure a smooth and seamless transition. Our commitment goes beyond preserving the integrity of the brand—we intend to build upon its legacy, investing in long-term growth to elevate the brand to new heights," says Duer.
The company will finish builds that are currently in progress and will continue to offer a line that includes Tartan's most popular sailing models - the 535, 455, 395, 365 and the all new Tartan 335.
About the future of the company and the workforce, Duer states, The key to the success of Tartan Yachts is the team building the boats. There are people who have been building Tartans for decades and who know more about building boats than anyone in the world. We are going to continue building boats in northeast Ohio with these same experts."
Duer is optimistic about the trajectory of the company. He says that the company will integrate new ideas, innovative amenities, and advanced technologies.
"Tartan Yachts have always been incredible boats to sail. Yes, they look great at the dock, but they are known for their performance, handling, comfort, and extra details that aren't found on other boats. We are going to continue to push the designs to make sailing a Tartan an unmatched experience."
Additional updates on future designs and initiatives will be announced in the coming months.
