iQFOiL Senior European Championship at Circolo Velico Sferracavallo - Day 5

by iQFOiL Class 28 Nov 08:54 PST 23-29 November 2025

Top 10 confirmed for tomorrow's Medal Series showdown in Sferracavallo

The penultimate day of the 2025 iQFOiL European Championship in Sferracavallo brought frustration and waiting as light and unstable wind conditions made racing impossible. As the forecast had been saying for a couple of days, the breeze never settled on the Gulf of Palermo, and no races could be sailed across any fleet.

As a result, the rankings from last night's final day of the Qualification Series stand, and the top ten athletes in both the Men's and Women's categories have officially qualified for tomorrow's high-stakes Medal Series, which will determine the 2025 European Champions.

The Medal Series unfolds in three stages: Quarter-Final, Semi-Final, and Grand Final. Athletes ranked sixth to tenth will battle it out in the Quarter-Final, with the top two advancing to the Semi-Final, where they will join those ranked third, fourth and fifth. The Grand Final features the top two athletes from the Opening Series, plus the best two from the Semi-Final. Importantly, the top two from tonight's leaderboard will carry one match point into the Final. The first athlete to score two match points will be crowned European Champion.

Men's Top 10: (Provisional)

Nicolas Goyard (FRA)
Finn Hawkins (GBR)
Tom Reuveny (ISR)
Pawel Tarnowski (POL)
Luuc van Opzeeland (NED)
Andy Brown (GBR)
Luca Di Tomassi (ITA)
Leonardo Tomasini (U23) (ITA)
Federico Alan Pilloni (U23) (ITA)
Johan Bornemann Søe (U23) (DEN)

Women's Top 10: (Provisional)

Emma Wilson (GBR)
Daniela Peleg (U23) (ISR)
Marta Maggetti (ITA)
Tamar Steinberg (U23) (ISR)
Palma Cargo (CRO)
Anastasiya Valkevich (POL)
Maya Gysler (U23) (NOR)
Sara Wennekes (NED)
Kristýna Pinosová (U23) (CZE)
Medea Falcioni (U23) (ITA)

With a stellar lineup set for Saturday's Medal Series, all eyes are now on Sferracavallo for a thrilling final day. The wind forecast seems reassuring, but the stakes couldn't be higher. The champions of Europe will soon be crowned.
