Poppy Appeal Charity Race 2025 at Bexhill Sailing Club

The final race of the sailing season at Bexhill Sailing Club on 8th November was in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Our fifth and final charity race for 2025. The beautiful autumn sun brought 14 boats onto the water.

The swell was big, the tide was strong, the sun was low, the wind was westerly and gusty. 2 helms returned to shore before the race had started, another returned to shore having capsized during the first lap. It was a bit challenging out there! All boats started at the same time as one fleet so getting around the first buoy was chaotic.

The fleet thinned out during the 1st lap and by the 2nd lap the fleet was nicely spread. The rivalry between Bob Palmer and Eve Fifield, both in Laser Radials, was fun to watch from the Club balcony. Eve triumphed finishing 30 seconds ahead of Bob, youthful and bravado trumping decades of experience. Chris Heath finished a close 3rd in his Devoti D-Zero.

Our Commodore, Judith Warren, represented Bexhill Sailing Club at the Remembrance Sunday service at the War Memorial on De La Warr Parade, laying a wreath on behalf of all Club members. The Sailing Club provided the cannon fire to mark the start and end of the 2 minute silence.

The service was followed by a delicious roast beef lunch in the Clubhouse organised by the Royal British Legion, attended by service personnel past and present, Bexhill Sailing Club members and honoured guests. In gratitude and remembrance of the fallen.

Now we will be packing up our boats and hanging up our wetsuits until the 2026 Season starts in March. However, there are plenty of social events to look forward to in the Clubhouse. Our Pantomime will be on 13th December. Written and produced by our very own Club member, the super talented Lucinda Silva, we look forward to her brand new script with anticipation.

Always a lot of fun, lots of giggles, a few discreet innuendos, plus a mince pie buffet and of course the 'Club price' bar! Tickets on sale SOON! Please contact for details of our 2026 Season memberships. We look forward to welcoming you to our Club.
