Cars started flooding into the Lake Samsonvale Water Sports Association from eight O'clock on Sunday morning and kept volunteers busy directing traffic until late afternoon as the grassed and treed parking areas around the club house filled.

A hot, humid day saw plenty of families moving between clubhouse, canteen, free BBQ, volunteer and sponsor marque's and to and from the wide range of craft available at the lake edge.

Over 280 people flocked to the LSWSA clubhouse and grassed lake foreshore for sailing focused activities from learn to sail, knot tying, sail knowledge and techniques, radio control yachts, a wide range of craft from Sunstate Hobie kayaks to Ncra Catamarans.

The wide range of sailing craft to sample included RS100 dinghies, Lasers, Tasers, Ncra 4.5 and 3.5 catamarans, Tornado, Taipan, Maricat, Flyer 15 and other catamarans taking kids, teens and adults for what were cruisy boat speeds to spray flying excitement around the lake.

People came from all around Brisbane and families who attended said they either learnt of the Open Day from media pre publicity, school bulletin boards and web pages, signage at local shops, park, picnic and rest stops and lake kayak foreshore.

There was as much keen shared interest and involvement by adults as well as tech savvy kids for the radio control yachts which remained busy all day. Volunteers manning the free BBQ were kept working all day and hundreds of sausages and onions on bread were consumed.

Club spokesmen said they were delighted with the attendance, the interest shown by many people from parents and children wanting to learn to sail to many who used to sail and want to return to it.
