ARES Yachts shares first impressions and images from SIMENA sea trials

by Ares Yachts 11 Nov 02:24 PST

ARES Yachts shared photography from sea trials of SIMENA, the Antalya-based shipyard's first superyacht in the 60+ metre range. During the tests, the 62-metre classically inspired, ketch-rigged sailing yacht demonstrated outstanding performance, achieving a top speed of 14 knots under power and delivering impressive agility and balance under sail.

  • Classically inspired 62-metre sailing superyacht, steel-carbon composite build
  • First superyacht of ARES Yachts
  • Exteriors by Taka Yacht Design, contemporary interior by Design Unlimited
  • Effortlessly merges classical and contemporary design hallmarks
  • Features towering ketch rig, classic lines, and ultimate comfort

"This is a truly proud moment for our entire team," says Piraye Sahinkaya Orhun, Yacht Projects Director at ARES Yachts. "SIMENA exceeded our expectations during the trials, showing remarkable speed, maneuverability, and silence under hybrid and sail propulsion. She embodies everything we set out to achieve — performance, comfort, and timeless elegance."

Built in steel-carbon composite and designed to RINA Charter Class C requirements, SIMENA is a true bluewater yacht, capable, efficient, and luxurious. Her exterior lines, by Taka Yacht Design, blend classic ketch proportions with modern hydrodynamics, while Design Unlimited has created interiors that harmoniously merge tradition and innovation.

Traditional laid teak decks and varnished sipo mahogany exterior joinery evoke a golden age of sailing, while contemporary comforts are subtly integrated throughout. The yacht is finished to the highest specification with Doyle Stratis sails, B&G instruments, and Miele appliances.

On board SIMENA, which broke into the list of top-25 largest sailing superyachts in the world, accommodation is offered in style and comfort for up to 12 guests and 9 crew, with the owner's suite positioned in a prime location forward on the main deck.

Power to the vessel is provided by a sophisticated hybrid drive system, enabling the yacht to operate silently under electric power up to 6 knots. In addition, an 882 kW (1183 hp) diesel engine can supplement her 220 kW electric motors, allowing her to reach a top speed of 14.5 knots, with a range of 4,000 nautical miles when cruising at 11 knots.

Inside, the ambiance is one of understated sophistication. Walnut cabinetry, tonal textured leathers and fabrics, and antiqued brass accents create a rich, layered atmosphere. Showers are adorned with patterned tiles and luxurious Calacatta Oro and Patagonia White marbles. Modern amenities such as TV lifts in the saloon and owner's suite are discreetly concealed to preserve the yacht's clean lines and timeless spirit.

SIMENA is exclusively available for sale through Northrop and Johnson.
