D2 of the 2025 Classic Cup on Port Phillip

by Richard Macree/A.J. McKinnon 1 Nov 13:55 PDT

The second day of the 2025 Cup Regatta held on Port Phillip has been completed, and what a great day we enjoyed.

Race One was a classic windward leeward return in an 8-knot Southerly, whilst for Race Two, things freshened a little from the forecast miserly to a much healthier 12-14 knots, with a wing mark thrown in for good measure.

Overall for the day:

In Division 1, Boambillee, the 1968 Sparkman and Stephens 36 footer, showed the fleet a clean set of heels to come in ahead of the perennial front-runner Mercedes III, and the dark horse Cyan. Some have called for a weigh in.

Division 2, the Tumlarens, saw Yvonne (after the disappointment of the Friday) get dealt the jigger, and romp home ahead of Dingo and Zephyr.

Division 3 saw Marama, with John Russell-Cook on the bit come in by a neck from Alwyn, and a Race 2 DNF Astrud. She should be good for the run.

Division 4 saw a close tussle between the colts from Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club, with Rob Tucker wielding the whip on the crew aboard Morning Star to head the Coutas home. Tony and Michael have called for a swab.

Division 5, the one-horse race Saw Hotspur score the Quinella. She appears unbeatable. So as they round the bend they are entering the home straight.

Well done to all!
