At an average speed of 18.84 knots, a superb performance by the Jonas Gerckens Belgian team competing in the 2nd edition of the GLOBE40 with Benoit Hantzperg and Renaud Dehareng on board for this leg 2, covering 452.22 nautical miles in 24 hours.
The previous record had been held since July 2024 by Guillaume Pirouelle (SOGESTRAN - SEAFRIGO) at 440.2 miles.
Having set off on October 2 from Mindelo in Cape Verde, Class40 No. 187 (a Lift V2 Lombard design model) is heading off the Brazilian coast to bypass the St Helena High before heading towards the Cape of Good Hope and its final destination, Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.
