On a sunny day, Trieste welcomed, with a magnificent crowd and atmosphere, the last crews arriving in the city for Barcolana57. At 7 p.m. registrations closed in Barcola, and tomorrow's regatta will feature 1,865 boats, a number not reached since 2019. The surprise of the day was the entry of New Zealand champion Dean Barker, who will race aboard Marino Quaiat's RC44 Tangaroa, joining the many great sailors who will animate the regatta.
The eve of the Autumn Cup once again confirmed itself as the day when Trieste symbolically embraces the sea. Tens of thousands of people filled the Barcolana Village and city streets: curious onlookers, enthusiasts, sailors, and tourists peacefully invaded the Rive and the city, admiring the large yachts moored in the San Giusto Basin, strolling through Piazza Unità, and fully enjoying the Barcolana experience. Among stands, events, and music, this year's edition also involves Cavana, which has returned to being a real "village" thanks to a project that takes Barcolana beyond the waterfront, into the heart of the city. Streets and squares come alive with music, exhibitions, shows, workshops, and installations, while shops, cafés, and restaurants welcome visitors and locals in a unique atmosphere. At the center of the village, the Barcolana Shop serves as a hub dedicated to the regatta, its history, and the neighborhood's excellence. Between tradition and innovation, Borgo Cavana is an integral part of the Barcolana Village, telling the story of a regatta that is also about culture, community, and celebration.
"The numbers at sea represent a post-pandemic record, clearly on the rise," said Mitja Gialuz, President of the SVBG. "It's the result of a journey that in the last ten days has involved thousands and thousands of athletes. Tomorrow there will be more than 15,000 people aboard sailing boats. On land, this Barcolana is surpassing even the 50th edition, with participation far beyond expectations. Not just the Rive anymore, but Piazza Unità, Borgo Cavana, Piazza della Borsa, Porto Vecchio, Altura, Roiano, Opicina - a Barcolana that embraces the whole city. Yesterday evening and throughout today we've seen incredible participation."
One of this year's innovations is the program of activities in Borgo Cavana.
"The results of Borgo Cavana," Gialuz added, "are very positive both for the enhancement of spaces and for the music project, which can naturally grow further. It's an excellent 'edition zero' that could serve as a prototype to expand into other parts of the city. Moreover, the Village of Legality in Piazza della Borsa is doing very well: a first for a major event, a space dedicated to the theme of safety and respect for rules — particularly road safety — to educate the young and not only them on the importance of respecting the rules."
Finally, looking ahead to tomorrow, the day of the 57th Autumn Cup, Gialuz concluded: "Tomorrow I want everyone to have fun in complete safety, paying special attention to the use of lifejackets for children and minors, and to the safety of your crews. Have fun and enjoy Barcolana!"
The start signal for Barcolana57 will be fired at 10:30 a.m., with forecasts of light winds: Bora at the start, then a clear shift westward that will mix things up and highlight the tacticians' skill. Earlier today, the final races of the Este24 European Championship, Barcolana Classic - SIAD Trophy, and Barcolana Meteor One Design took place. Tonight's program features the Barcolana By Night - Regional Cup.
Barcolana Classic - Siad Trophy - A great spectacle and applause for the 90 registered yachts: from the fascinating designs of Carlo Sciarrelli to some of the oldest boats of the Gulf, and up to the most recent IOR and Spirit of Tradition vessels. After the traditional parade in the San Giusto Basin, the fleet completed two races for all classes with westerly winds up to 8 knots and a light swell.
Results:
- Epoca Class: Ciao Pais (Massimo Fonda, STV) ahead of Roberta III (Alberto Ieralla, SN Grignano) and Sorella (Italian Navy).
- Classici: Nembo II (Nicolò de Manzini, YCA) first, followed by Naif (Ivan Gardini, CV Ravennate) and Aglaia (Davide Lentini, SN Pjetas Julia).
- IOR: Riff (Massimo Nadalin, SV Oscar Cosulich) won, followed by Lola (Stefano Michelazzi, STV) and Moretto (Sofia Gardini, CV Ravennate).

Barcolana Tri-Este24 - European Championship - Ideal conditions today for the Barcolana TriEste24 - European Championship: the continental title goes to Kaster 24 (Antonio Sodo Migliori, YC Costa Smeralda), who, with results 1-2-1-3-1-1, becomes Este24 European Champion. Second place for Milù 4 (Andrea Pietrolucci, CV Fiumicino), third for RiDeCoSì (Alessandro Maria Rinaldi, CC Aniene).
The day brought light winds, steady direction, and a windward mark set at 110 degrees. At mid-race, a fierce battle unfolded between Kaster 24, Milù 4, and RiDeCoSì — crews with professionals on board who interpreted the light conditions best.
"We are very satisfied with the organization here in Trieste," said Alessandro Maria Rinaldi, Este24 Class President, "which gave us yesterday an extraordinary day with four technically challenging races and an evening Stadium Race in San Giusto Basin — a spectacle with pink gennakers at sunset."
Go to Barcolana from Slovenia - I Feel Slovenia - Generali, skippered by Samo Žvan, won the 10th edition of the Go to Barcolana from Slovenia - I Feel Slovenia, finishing in 2 hours and 7 minutes. Shining followed four minutes later, with Adriatic Europain third. The fleet started at 11:00 from the Gulf of Portorož, with a line positioned north toward Piran to best exploit the morning breeze, and was welcomed by thousands along Trieste's waterfront in the afternoon.
Barcolana Meteor One Design - Today, forty Meteor class boats competed in the Barcolana Meteor One Design, organized with the Società Nautica Grignano. The regatta was designed to offer owners a chance to test their crews and boats on a technical course before Sunday's main event. After three races, victory went to Frivolotto (Gabriele Fano, SVBG), ahead of Basilico (Matteo Sampiero, CDV Erik) and Senza Intoppi (Mario Pisetta, Velica Trentina).
The eve of Barcolana, as tradition dictates, concludes at sea with the Barcolana By Night - Regional Cup.
