China Coast Regatta 2025 - Day 2

Day 2 of the China Coast Regatta was in full swing, with sailing conditions mirroring those of the previous day. Upon reaching the racecourse southeast of Lamma Island that morning, the race management team was greeted by a steady 10 to 12kts of easterly breeze under a stunning blue sky - ideal conditions for another exciting day on the water.
Nine entries from the PHS Division joined the day's action. The fleet completed one windward/leeward race followed by a 14nm island course around Beaufort Island and Sung Kong. Meanwhile, the IRC Premier Division tackled two island courses.
The IRC Racer fleet faced a demanding schedule of three windward/leeward races, which tested both tactical decision-making and boat handling. In sailing, consistency proved to be key - minimising mistakes often made the difference between winning and losing.
After two races, the wind shifted more to the south. The race management team swiftly adjusted the course, allowing sailors a short lunch break before the final race. As the breeze built to 15kts for the third race, competition intensified across all six classes.
Most of the Day 1 leaders managed to retain their top positions. In IRC Racer Division 0, Nie Hua's Happy Go took two bullets, tying with Noel Chan's Rampage 88 at 7.5 points. Unicorn, helmed by Xiaoguang Lu and Bo Wu, delivered a solid performance to move into third place.
In IRC Racer 1, Nick Burns' Witchcraft dominated with three bullets, maintaining a strong grip on first place. James Verner's Nightshift moved up to second after a consistent showing, followed closely by Henning Muller's Zesst.
There were some shake-ups in IRC Racer 2 (Cape 31). With the addition of Olympian Stephanie Norton onboard, Rampage 38 - now boasting two Olympians - secured two bullets and surged to the top of the leaderboard. Capitano sits just one point behind, tied with Out of Africa.
In IRC Racer 3, Nick Southward's Admiralty Harbour Whiskey Jack took three bullets to lead the division, with Andy Pidden's Juice moving up to second place.
In the Premier Division, Tom Attenborough's Parnassus led after taking two bullets, followed by Thomas Wong's DBX2 in second place.
The PHS Division saw Dean Chisholm's Darling and Eddy Lee's Generations both tie with 3 points.
The day concluded with a legendary Mount Gay party on the Middle Island hardstanding, bringing sailors together to celebrate a thrilling day on the water. Racing wraps up tomorrow - stay tuned for more action off Lamma Island!
