This weekend, October 11-12, the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta (IOR) returns to Larchmont Yacht Club, co-hosted by the Storm Trysail Club.

Nearly 50 schools from 19 U.S. states and 3 Canadian provinces will gather for one of the largest—and most distinctive—collegiate sailing events in North America.

The IOR offers college sailors a rare opportunity to trade their dinghies for big boats, competing in conditions that test seamanship, communication, and teamwork on a whole new scale. This year's regatta will feature 370 student sailors, supported by more than 110 volunteers across race management, safety, media, and spectator operations.

Backed by the Storm Trysail Foundation, whose mission is to foster safety and growth in the sport, the event remains free for all competitors, thanks to the generosity of donors, local boat owners, and sponsors whose contributions make this unique experience possible.

Now celebrating its fifth decade, the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta continues to inspire the next generation of offshore sailors, building lifelong connections and a deeper appreciation for big-boat racing.

Beyond the competition, sailors will enjoy a full weekend of camaraderie and community. Teams will be treated to Friday and Saturday dinners, a Saturday evening speaker, and pizza at Sunday's awards ceremony—a chance to relax, share stories, and network with fellow sailors and future boat owners alike.

New this year: the Storm Trysail Club will introduce the Callisto Cup, generously donated by Jim and Kate Murray, to honor the team with the best combined performance at both the Larchmont IOR and the Great Lakes IOR, held last month. Thirteen teams are eligible for this inaugural award.
