High performance technical mid-layers, manufactured from Ghost Nets and Recycled Plastic Bottles

Henri-Lloyd's new Autumn/Winter 2025 collection features the Bergen Hooded Jacket and Bergen Gilet, the first in their range to be manufactured using performance fabrics alongside fibres and insulation derived from ghost nets and recycled plastic bottles.

The Bergen Hooded Jacket and matching Gilet are lightweight, high performance mid-layers. Whether worn on their own or under an outer shell, the Bergen range offers warmth and weather resistance, thanks to chemical-free C0 durable water-repellent PU coating and recycled PET insulation.

Available in three colourways - Navy with Off-White, Navy, and Sea Spray, the Bergen Hooded jacket retails at £249 and the Bergen Gilet, available in the same colourways, retails at £195. Both are available in sizes Small to 2XL.

"The Bergen range is more than just a new style of high-performance technical mid-layer," says Kim Ramsay from Henri-Lloyd. "These are the first garments from Henri-Lloyd that have been created using NetPlus®, a programme which produces fibre and fabrics from discarded ghost nets and with REPREVE® insulation, derived from recycled plastic bottles, enabling us to deliver outerwear that is functional without relying on virgin resources."

As a brand with its heritage rooted in the seas, the design team at Henri-Lloyd have been working on creating high performance technical garments that also help protect the environment through certified and measurable recycling, as well as being free from harmful chemicals.

NetPlus® is an incentivised program through which fishermen around the world are empowered to return end-of-life nets responsibly, helping prevent some of the most damaging forms of plastic from drifting back into the sea. The nets are sorted, cleaned, shredded and packed by Bureo, a certified B-Corporation, for advanced recycling. Using depolymerisation technology, the nylon is then broken down and reformed into NetPlus® nylon pellets. These are extruded into high-quality yarns, which are the foundation for the durable technical fabrics engineered to meet the rigorous standards demanded by Henri-Lloyd for its technical apparel.

"We researched many potential solutions," says Ramsay, "and NetPlus® delivered the best results. Compared to using virgin nylon, NetPlus® reduces greenhouse emissions by 20%, water use by 70%, fossil fuel consumption by 67% and energy use by 68%. At the same time, the program supports coastal employment and reinvests in environmental initiatives, ensuring positive impact for both ocean health and local communities."

In addition, the Bergen range uses REPREVE®, the world's leading brand of recycled performance fibre, for its insulation. Made traceably from plastic bottles (PET) including those collected within 50 km of coastal areas lacking formal recycling centres, REPREVE® helps prevent ocean-bound plastic from reaching the waterways and seas. To date, over 40 billion bottles have been diverted from landfill and coastlines through REPREVE's work. The bottles are verified by OceanCycle® before being cleaned and shredded into recycled flake. This is then melted into resin, and embedded with FiberPrint® technology to ensure full traceability from source to final fibre.

Ramsay concludes: "Henri-Lloyd has chosen to use REPREVE® insulation within its Autumn/Winter 25 range because it offers the highest standards of warmth without bulk, moisture and odour control, and durability for gear that will last season after season. Together with NetPlus® fabric, this Bergen range epitomises our core values: that performance and responsibility can, and must, go hand-in-hand, crafted with the same uncompromising standards Henri-Lloyd has stood for since 1963."
