2025 GL52 Macatawa Challenge - Day 2
by Windlass Creative 5 Oct 14:21 PDT
The penultimate day of the GL52 fleet's 2025 season was sailed in 9-12 knots of wind on Lake Michigan Saturday. As is typical of this indefatigable fleet, 3 winners in 3 races created a shake-up in the standings.
This leaves the GL52 Macatawa Challenge 2025, and by extension the GL52 Great Lakes Series 2025, titles hanging in the balance heading into the final day of racing on Sunday.
Chris Duhon's MOCKINGBIRD (5,4,7,1,6,5=28) came out of the gate strong to handily win Race 1, their first bullet of the event. John Huhn's KATANA, scored a win in Race 2 (3,1,4,3,1,2=14) which, combined with a second in Race 3 kept them in the top spot of the regatta leaderboard. Doug DeVos' WINDQUEST (6,2,3,7,5,1=24) was well sailed to a convincing win in Race 3. Laura & Bob Hughes' HEARTBREAKER had an uncharacteristically disappointing Saturday (1,5,2,2,3,7=20) that moved them to third place in the regatta, while a solid performance by Peter Askew's WIZARD (4,3,1,4,2,4=18) kept them in second place.
We anticipate extremely competitive racing in the final two races of the season that will determine both the Macatawa Challenge and the GL52 Great Lakes Series winners. With two races left and no "throw-outs" in this regatta, it's still all to play for on the very last day of the GL52 2025 season!
