Eighteen Flying Fifteens gathered at Loch Tummel Sailing Club on 13-14 September for the Scottish Championship, sailed as part of the club's Autumn Regatta alongside several junior classes. The event combined great racing, strong volunteer support, and spectacular Highland scenery.

Day 1 - Snakes and Ladders

Saturday opened with light, shifty southerlies that made course setting and tactical calls tricky. Race 1 was led early by 3733 Mike & Sara Harris, before 3802 Mike Preston & Karl Sloane (both of Blackpool & Fleetwood YC) found their way to the front and held on for victory.

In Race 2, 3633 Craig Hepplewhite & John Annan (Loch Lomond SC) took the win, followed by clubmates 4001 Euan Dunn & Duncan Hepplewhite, with 4147 Tony Woods & your correspondent in third. Race 3 saw the same top two, with Preston & Sloane this time in third.

At the overnight stage, Hepplewhite & Annan led the championship, Dunn & Hepplewhite were second, and 3332 Tim Allen & Iain McNeill (Dovestone SC) topped the Silver Fleet. 485 Graham & Cameron Sharp (Plockton) led the Classics.

A well-attended curry night, cooked by club volunteers, provided a sociable close to the first day.

Day 2 - Title Decider

Sunday began with calm conditions and a short postponement before an easterly breeze filled in. Race 4 went to Preston & Sloane despite an early penalty, with Woods second and 4130 Adrian Tattersall & John Mathie (Parkstone & Fishguard YC) in third. Overnight leaders Hepplewhite & Annan finished eighth, opening the door for a final-race showdown.

Race 5 proved decisive. Preston & Sloane delivered another composed performance, sealing both the race win and the overall title. Hepplewhite & Annan were second overall, while Dunn & Hepplewhite completed the podium in third. Allen & McNeill claimed the Silver Fleet prize, and the Sharps took top Classic honours.

Overall Results:

1st Silver - 3332 - Tim Allen & Iain McNeill - Dovestone SC
1st Classic - 485 - Graham & Cameron Sharp - Plockton SBC
