Rutland TT Showcases the Best of Hansa Sailing in Thrilling Series Showdown

Rutland Sailability delivered an exceptional seventh round of the 2025 Hansa TT series, stepping in as last-minute hosts after Bolton's cancellation due to drought conditions. The event saw 25 boats from across the UK and Ireland compete on Rutland's renowned inland waters, combining top-tier racing with the inclusive spirit that defines Hansa sailing.
New Talent Shines in Competitive Field
The home club fielded an impressive 12-boat contingent, including four sailors making their series debut. Under the expert guidance of coaches Tony Barmby, Wendy Alexander and Logan Bell, these newcomers demonstrated the programme's success in developing competitive sailors while maintaining the class's welcoming ethos.
Challenging Conditions
With the series passing its halfway point, the championship battles grew increasingly intense. Competitors faced a stern test of skill as they adapted to light, shifty winds and extreme 30 degreesC heat - conditions that rewarded tactical awareness and mental resilience.
Fleet Highlights
Liberty Class: Rory McKinna (Scotland) demonstrated remarkable versatility to claim victory sailing a Liberty instead of his usual 303. Mary Duffy made the journey from Ireland worthwhile with a strong performance. Chris Emmet and Paul Pearson rounded off the podium.
303 Singles: Whitefriars' Sophie Brisley dominated with wins in Races 1 and 3, while Hannah Nicolls' consistent sailing - capped by a final race victory - secured second overall in this tightly fought class with only 4 points separating the top five.
303 Doubles: The ever-competitive Swan duo (Lynn and Stuart) continued their winning form, though newcomers made their mark - none more so than 12-year-old Miles De Barros and Steve Sawford, whose impressive third in race 2 and fifth overall.
The Spirit of Sailability
Beyond the racing, the event exemplified why the Hansa TT series has become so much more than just competition. The dedicated volunteer team ensured smooth operations, while sailors and supporters shared knowledge, laughter and the day's highlights. The traditional prize-giving with British cream teas provided the perfect conclusion.
Looking Ahead
With the series moving next to Midlands Sailing Club (27 August) and then Woolverstone (10 September), the 2025 championship promises more excitement as new talents challenge the established order.
