After a day of light-air sailing on Thursday, the 6-boat GL52 fleet welcomed more wind on the Little Traverse Bay race course on Day 2 of the GL52 Little Traverse Cup 2025.
In a two-boat battle to the finish, Doug DeVos' WINDQUEST (1,4,5) edged out Robert Hughes' HEARTBREAKER (2,5,1) on the final gybe of Race 4, to win the first race of the day. In Race 5, despite a disappointing start that took them out to the right side of the course, Peter Askew's WIZARD (3,1,6) was first to find the left-shift that lifted them into second place by the weather mark, gaining momentum they moved into the lead for the win.
HEARTBREAKER led the fleet around the course in Race 6, claiming another win to maintain their first-place position with 15 points. KATANA's (5,2,2) two second place finishes moved them into second place overall with 18 points, WIZARD is in third-place with 20 points.
Day 2 scores are below and detailed LTC results are found here.
Among the growing fleet of spectators were 3 boats of Little Traverse Sailing school students. Head of Sailing, David Gerber taught and commentated as they followed the GL52s up and down the course. It's great to know that our GL52 fleet is inspiring the next generation of sailors!
In the first 5 races of the LTC, we saw 5 different first place finishers; a big indicator of the high-level of competition within the GL52 fleet. In addition to podium positions for this regatta, GL52 Great Lakes Series 2025 standings are also at stake. As they say, it's still all to play for today!
