J/70 Cup 2025 - stage 3 at Fraglia Vela Riva

by J/Boats 11 Aug 08:32 PDT 18-20 July 2025

With 50 teams from 21 nations on the starting line, the third stage of the J/70 Cup 2025 concluded in Riva del Garda, confirming its status as one of the most popular and international events on the Italian one-design sailing calendar.

The smooth and high-level running of the event was made possible by the impeccable organization of Fraglia Vela Riva, in collaboration with the J/70 Italian Class, and the precise and timely work of the Race Committee, chaired by Valentina Bravi. The support of Vakaros RaceSense technology was also crucial, allowing for smooth management of the start and course control phases, contributing to the technical success of the event.

The final day saw the final two scheduled races, bringing the total number of races completed to eight, the maximum scheduled for the event. A lighter and more irregular Ora than in previous days, gradually declining, nevertheless, accompanied the fleet until the series' conclusion.

Mauro Roversi's J-CURVE took the stage victory, defending the lead they gained on day two with today's partial scores of 4-9 and taking the top step of the podium after a weekend of great consistency.

The star of the day was Vasco Serpa's Portuguese team, SOLYD SAILING TEAM/ Sail Cascais, who won both races and moved up to second place in the overall standings.

Third place on the podium went to Matteo Marenghi Vaselli's G-SPOT, who managed to maintain their position despite being forced out of today's racing due to a collision in yesterday's final race. Thanks to the repairs granted by the Jury, the crew still managed to retain a well-deserved bronze medal.

The balance of the top five was Richard Witzel's ROWDY from the United States in fourth, followed by Martin Dent's JELVIS in fifth place.

In the Corinthian division, Gianfranco Noè's WHITE HAWK took a commanding lead, closing the series with a five-point lead over Denis Infante's EUROVOILE, winner of the opening race. The bronze medal went to the British team CALYPSO, led by their woman skipper Ali Hall.

In the One-Pro division, Manfredo Toninelli's T-ONE confirmed its lead from the recent Mixed Plus World Championship in Torbole, while Anna Stolyarova's ROMANIAN DREAM TEAM Team won the Mixed Plus category.

The award for Best Young Crew once again went to BULLA/ Yacht Club Italiano, confirming the team's excellent work.

With the Riva del Garda event now over and the season now in full swing, the J/70 Cup is now taking a summer break. The next event is scheduled for the first weekend of October, when the fleet will gather in Porto Maurizio (Imperia) to compete in the 2025 Italian J/70 Championship, a key event on the national calendar that will decide the season's Italian title.

The 2025 J/70 Italian Class season is supported by Lincoln International, Gottifredi Maffioli, Garmin, VelaMania, North Sails Collection, UtilGraph, Gin Vento, and Cantine Tinazzi.
