From September 9 to 14, the best of the European Windsurfer Class will gather in Punta Ala for an unforgettable event. With more than 170 registered athletes from 16 countries already confirmed, this championship promises to deliver an incredible show.

The Gulf of Follonica will light up with the unmistakable fluorescent sails of the Windsurfer Class—symbols of a passion that spans generations and continents.

After hosting its first-ever Windsurfer Class event in 2024—a zonal regatta—the Centro Velico Punta Ala is now set to welcome a major international championship. With over 20 years of experience organizing high-profile sailing events, the Centro Velico Punta Ala is set to offer a week of top-level sport, fun, and excitement in one of Tuscany's most stunning coastal settings.

The Windsurfer — represented by the most iconic board in the history of windsurfing — was invented in the late 1960s and experienced an extraordinary boom in the 1980s, becoming a true symbol of that era. In 2018, it was relaunched by Windsurfer Europe in 2018 in an updated version, featuring modern materials but preserving the original concept of simplicity and one-design racing. Competition remains central, but always in the spirit of fun, inclusion, and community. Legends of the sport share the water with young talents, parents and children, professionals and amateurs. It's not uncommon to see athletes racing alongside their kids or entire families participating together, making this event not just a regatta, but a celebration of a shared passion.

Athletes from 16 nations will take to the water, including competitors from Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Venezuela, Thailand, South Africa, and all across Europe—alongside a strong and competitive Italian contingent. Among the 173 pre-registered participants are several stars of the international Windsurfer scene.

This event also serves as a key step on the road to the Windsurfer World Championships, scheduled for October in Athens—a natural continuation of the international season and a prime opportunity to face the sport's top talent.

The event format includes four disciplines: 8 course races, 1 slalom, 1 marathon, and a spectacular freestyle exhibition. The course races form the championship's core, where consistency, tactical skill, and strategic choices are key. The slalom—fast-paced and thrilling—will take place in heats of 8 to 10 athletes, with half advancing to the next round, in a close-to-shore format that's highly spectacular and easily visible to spectators. The marathon, a long-distance race with a mass start, will challenge endurance and tactical vision. The freestyle, a non-competitive showcase, will deliver pure entertainment with dynamic and acrobatic maneuvers performed right along the shoreline.

The final standings will be determined by the combined results of 10 races (course races, slalom, and marathon), with the freestyle scored separately.

Adding to the experience, a rich side program awaits companions and families: guided excursions in the Maremma countryside, relaxation on the equipped beach, outdoor activities, and entertainment for children. The Windsurfer European Championship is more than just a regatta—it's a lifestyle event that embraces the Windsurfer spirit, where everyone, from athletes to supporters, becomes part of one big community.

The Centro Velico Punta Ala, nestled beneath the historic Torre Civette just south of Cala Violina, is located within the PuntAla Camp & Resort—the event's logistical base and social hub. The resort will transform into a true "Olympic village," where everything—from boards storage to the beach, accommodation, and restaurants—is easily accessible on foot, in a safe, nature-filled environment.

Each evening will bring opportunities for social gatherings, including the much-anticipated Regatta Dinner on Friday, daily Happy Hours, and live music.

The Windsurfer European Championship 2025 is ready to write a new chapter: exciting challenges, energy on the water and lots of team spirit. Because windsurfing is, above all, one big family.

Whether you're a seasoned athlete, a supportive companion, or a curious first-timer, we look forward to welcoming you to Punta Ala to experience it all—together.
