The three organising clubs and the Balearic Sailing Federation create the Fundación para la Protección y el Fomento de las Actividades Náutico Deportivas en la bahía de Palma (Foundation for the Protection and Promotion of Nautical Sports Activities in the Bay of Palma).

Among the responsibilities of the new institution is the organisation of the next Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels, which will be held from 27 March to 4 April 2026.

The Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels has been setting milestones since its inception in 1968. Initially created by the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) as a regatta for Dragon class boats, it expanded its fleet in 1974 by adding 420, 470, Finn, Soling and Snipe classes, and increased its organisational core with the incorporation of other clubs. Today, what is considered the world's leading Olympic class regatta is organised by the RCNP, the Club Nàutic S'Arenal (CNA), the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa (CMSAP) and the Balearic Sailing Federation (FBV). The four institutions have just signed an agreement to jointly create an entity that elevates the organisation of the Sofia to foundation status. The Fundación para la Protección y el Fomento de las Actividades Náutico Deportivas en la bahía de Palma (Foundation for the Protection and Promotion of Nautical Sports Activities in the Bay of Palma) will organise the Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels from its next edition, the 55th, which will be held from 27 March to 4 April 2026.

The agreement to establish the Foundation was signed by the president of the RCNP, Rafael Gil; the president of the CNA, José Ramón Picó; the president of the CMSAP, Juan Miguel Catalá; and the president of the FBV, Cati Darder, who will be the first president of the new entity.

"I would highlight the importance of the founders joining forces to develop activities to promote sport in the Bay of Palma," explains Darder. "The three yacht clubs and the FBV will use the Foundation to promote training and environmental awareness courses for the conservation of the Bay of Palma and its interrelation with water sports; introductory and training courses in sailing and water sports; the organisation of local, national and international regattas; open days to promote sailing and water sports; conferences and forums to promote water sports; and attendance at promotional fairs for water sports with the aim of promoting them in the Bay of Palma".

Also participating in the signing of the agreement were Manu Fraga, manager of the RCNP; Ferrán Muniesa, manager of the CNA; and Javier Zaynoun, manager of the CMSAP.

The 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels is the first scoring event for the 2026 Sailing Grand Slam.
