After an intense week of high-level racing at the 43rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE - ORC European Championship 2025, the Cape 31 Early Bird secured an outstanding 2nd place overall, just a few points shy of the title in a fiercely competitive 32-boat fleet.
This result marks a huge milestone for the Cape 31 class, as Early Bird—a one-design boat—stood out in a field traditionally dominated by custom and mixed-class racing yachts. Leading the pack for most of the regatta, Early Bird proved its performance and consistency under the ORC rating system, cementing its place as a serious contender on the European racing scene.
"This is an epic achievement for our team and for the Cape 31 as a platform," said the Early Bird crew. "To be just a few points from the top at the ORC Europeans speaks volumes about what this little boat can do."
The Cape 31 fleet had further reason to celebrate, with MeerBlick finishing 7th and Firstings placing 19th overall—strong showings in a highly tactical and competitive environment.
The event was flawlessly hosted by the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP), whose professionalism, organization, and warm hospitality made the championship one to remember. The Cape 31 class is already looking forward to returning to Palma for the European Championship this October, once again under RCNP's world-class management.
The Cape 31 class continues to punch well above its weight and bring high-energy competition wherever it goes. With growing international participation and impressive results, the future looks bright.
