XOD Captain's Cup at Cowes Week - Day 2

by Rory Paton 3 Aug 12:45 PDT 2-8 August 2025

Once again the biggest fleet at Cowes Week is the battle for the Captain's Cup, one of the hardest fought in sailing. Today was a mere 3 1/4 hours with every inch fought for.

After yesterday's general recall and multiple OCS, today the fleet was more cautious. Olympian Barry Dunning and crew rolled back the years, nailed the start and looked to be off and away. But then John Tremlett, Frazer Graham and Tim Copsey in Astralita ominously got going as the fleet beat along Cowes Green and into Gurnard Bay in a classic course.

A fetch to Lepe Spit followed by a windward leeward cascading along the Bramble Bank and a beat to the finish followed. Many of the teams suggested a chipolata too many, but we do have a day off tomorrow with Storm Floris inbound.

At the end Astralita had disappeared for a second bullet. 2nd was Gone Away crewed by Steve Lawrence, Damian Ash & Finn McCormack and 3rd was X Ray sailed by James Markby, David Bedford and Rauiri Grimes.

XOD class results so far can be found here.
