As one of Britain's finest offshore racers, it is fitting that Sam Goodchild has chosen to become an ambassador for British sailing apparel brand, Henri-Lloyd.
In this role, Goodchild will be working directly with Henri-Lloyd's Executive Chairman Knut Frostad and the company's Manchester-based product development team. "I'm really excited and energised by the prospect of working with Henri-Lloyd, and with someone as experienced as Knut," says Goodchild. He adds: "Henri-Lloyd has a clear aim and ambition to once again become the world's leading sailing apparel brand, and I am delighted to be involved and helping on that journey."
"Sam represents the future of Ocean Racing. With his wealth of experience and his racing programme across multiple boats and classes, I cannot think of a better ambassador for Henri-Lloyd. Our common goal is to continue developing the best sailing gear for all passionate sailors. We are incredibly proud having Sam onboard," says Knut Frostad.
Sam has himself been through a lifetime's journey to attain the position he now holds - victorious in the IMOCA class having just won the Course de Caps in June 2025, a 1,800 nm sprint around Britain and Ireland.
In his debut season in the IMOCA class, Goodchild achieved five consecutive podium finishes securing him the title of IMOCA Globe Series Champion 2023.
In 2024, his first Vendée Globe, Sam finished a respectable 9th after a torn mainsail just over 1,000 nm from the finish line destroyed his hopes of a fourth-place finish.
Goodchild says: "My journey has seen me racing and sailing on such a wide variety of high-performance boats so I understand a lot about how technical sailing gear has to perform across different conditions." In particular he cites how sailors often spend long periods of relative inactivity where warmth and waterproofness is paramount, before sudden bouts of high energy exertion, where breathable and flexible clothing is critical.
"Over the years, I've seen how sailing apparel has developed from being heavy, bulky and cumbersome, to testing out and reviewing the new Henri-Lloyd Dynamic which is lighter weight, flexible and yet still 100% waterproof and breathable. I'm looking forward to working with Henri-Lloyd's product team where hopefully my experience of all types of racing, inshore and offshore, round the world and transocean will be useful in their range development," says Goodchild.
This summer sees Goodchild embarking on multiple races as guest skipper and crew, including the Fastnet, The Ocean Race Europe, Defi Azimut and Transat Café.
