Cape 31 Mediterranean Circuit Round 4 at Porto Maurizio Yacht Club - Overall

by Tor Tomlinson Cheney 22 Jul 02:31 PDT 18-20 July 2025

The Cape 31 fleet wrapped up a spectacular weekend of racing in Imperia with Alessandro Rombelli's Stig (ITA 76) claiming the overall win after nine races. This marks Stig's second Italian victory of the 2025 Cape 31 Race Circuit, having also triumphed earlier this season in Sanremo.

With Victor Diaz de Leon calling tactics and Giorgio Tortorolo on board, Stig delivered a near-flawless performance — staying consistent in light winds and capitalizing when the breeze filled in on Sunday. Their final scoreline of 2, 1, 6, 1, 3, 4, 5, (10), 8 gave them a net score of 30 points, securing a clear win.

Pacific Yankee (USA 62), helmed this weekend by guest driver Robert Porter, showed great pace and resilience to finish second overall with 39 points, including race wins in Races 3 and 7.

Christian Zuerrer's Black Star (SUI 27) took third overall, claiming their first Cape 31 podium finish, highlighted by a win in Race 1 and consistent top-10 results throughout.

The Corinthian One Pro title went to Adrien Follin's GIVE ME FIVE (FRA 05) — a team that sails with just one professional on board. They closed the regatta in stunning form with a 3, 1, 1 on the final day — the best final day performance across the fleet — finishing fifth overall and topping the Corinthian standings with 50 points.

Other race winners over the weekend included:

  • Eker Süzme (TUR 50) - Race 6
  • Warrior Won (USA 74) - Race 5
  • Kalantis (GER 80) - Race 8

The regatta began with two light and tactical days, but Sunday brought classic Cape 31 action: full-send conditions, tight mark roundings, and fast-paced racing — a perfect test of boat handling and teamwork.

Off the water, Porto Maurizio Yacht Club hosted a memorable dinner at the local tennis club, while the town of Imperia proved to be a fantastic venue — known for its lively bars, welcoming cafés, great restaurants, cycling routes, and stunning beach.

Next up for the Cape 31 fleet is Arenal Yacht Club in Palma, Mallorca, from September 12-14, followed by the season highlight: the Cape 31 European Championship, hosted by Real Club Náutico de Palma, October 15-19. Early entries are strong, with 25-30 boats expected from 15 nations — making it the most international Cape 31 event to date.

Thank you to Porto Mauizio Yacht Club for hosting us and to our class partners North Sails, Peters and May, Doyle Sails and Quantum Sails.
