The third round of the 2025 Cape 31 Med Circuit wrapped up this weekend in Sanremo, serving up three days of sunshine, spectacular racing, and classic Italian flair.

Thirteen teams from nine nations came together at Yacht Club Sanremo. Despite a high-pressure system halting racing on Day 2, the fleet completed six high-quality races.

Day 1 - Patience Rewarded

Day one tested teams' patience, with a long wait ashore under the sun before the breeze filled in late in the afternoon. The race committee made the most of the window, running three tight, tactical races along the Ligurian coast.

  • Shotgunn took the opening win
  • Stig dominated races 2 and 3
  • Podium appearances also came from Give Me Five, Kalantis, Pacific Yankee, and Squirt (chartered by Yacht Club Italiano)

Day 2 - No Racing

Saturday became an unplanned rest day as the high-pressure system kept the wind away. Teams took the chance to relax and enjoy the Sanremo setting.

Day 3 - Breeze Returns from the East

Sunday brought relief and action, with a beautiful easterly breeze setting up three more tactical and exciting races.

  • Kalantis took their first Cape 31 win in Race 4
  • Shotgunn led from start to finish in Race 5
  • Give Me Five sailed a strong final race to win Race 6
  • Stig showed impressive consistency, fighting through the fleet in tougher conditions to seal the event win

Final Results

Stig, owned by Alessandro Rombelli, took their first overall Cape 31 victory, marking a major milestone since joining the class last season.

Give Me Five secured second overall and also topped the Corinthian/One-Pro division.

In third overall, Kalantis made a big impression with their first Cape 31 podium finish in just their debut season.

Just one point off the podium was the American team Pacific Yankee, showing strong progress and promise.

Corinthian/One-Pro Podium:

1st Give Me Five (FRA)
2nd Motions (NED)
3rd Squirt (ITA - chartered by Yacht Club Italiano)

With epic racing, pasta parties on the dock, live music and champagne celebrations, Sanremo once again proved itself a Cape 31 classic. The fleet now heads to Imperia for Round 4, 18-20 July.

Special Thanks

Thank you to Yacht Club Sanremo for hosting us, and to Umberto Zocca for organising another fantastic event with us.

Thanks also to the race committee, led by Fulvio Parody, who always do an outstanding job at our Sanremo and Imperia events. This was the toughest forecast yet, and we're impressed they delivered six races!

A special thank you to Marco Cimarosti, head of the protest committee.

Finally, thank you to our Cape 31 Med Circuit partners — North Sails, Peters & May, and Spinlock — for their continued support of the class. As well as Quantum Sails and Doyle Sails our preferred suppliers.
