Nine British sailors spent two weeks in Puck, Poland with the Performance Academy and ILCA UK for the ILCA 4 Youth European Championships, supported by Head Coach Charlie Linsell and Manager James Parker-Mowbray.

After four days of pre-event training which saw our sailors link with some international groups, six days of racing followed, which showcased all nine sailors demonstrate significant progress, leading to some fantastic performances.

With most of the event seeing big breeze, and gusts reaching up to 40 knots, the race committee did a great job accommodating. Three Gold Fleet races were completed on the final day in 20-25 knots.

All nine sailors performed exceptionally well across the championships, with standouts in the girl's fleet including Jess Powell with a podium finish in 3rd for the u16 and Chloe Graton finishing 6th amongst the u16s. Meanwhile in the boy's fleet, Toby Waggett finished 2nd in the u16 category and 7th overall.

"It was fantastic to see all the hard work that the sailors had put in during their winter training, resulting in them achieving many of their goals.

"The team learnt and developed throughout the week providing experiences and lessons that will support them through their sailing career." - James Parker-Mowbray, Performance Academy Manager

Many of the ILCA 4s are now looking ahead to Los Angeles for ILCA 4 World Championships, and the European Championships were also a great opportunity to gain valuable racing experience for the upcoming nationals in Plas Heli, Wales.
