Saltwater Fishing

Bluefin - Large numbers of bluefin are being seen at Tasman and Schouten Island in the last week chasing bait on the surface but anglers have been finding it hard to entice a bite. There has also been a few reports of tuna been seen around the Derwent bridge on the weekend.

Striped Trumpeter - are fishing well and with some calm weather recently anglers have been taking advantage to get amongst these great table fish

Bream - are starting to school up in the upper sections of estuaries. Vibes like Daiwas new Reflex vibe are proving to be very effective.

Sea Trout - quite a few smaller sized sea runners are starting to be caught throughout the Derwent and Huon estuaries. They have been seen chasing small bait around shores with good tidal flow.

Flounder - with days getting dark early and a few calm nights with good tides people have taken advantage of going out to chase flounder with some good success.

Garfish - garfish have been spotted around most shallow bays and estuaries. Especially at night by people chasing flounder. Good powder burley is key to bringing fish in.

Squid - big model calamari are starting to get caught inshore around shallow weed beds. Look for good clean water without any fresh in it.

Freshwater Fishing

Craigbourne Dam

Is fishing very well with some recent stockings of both browns and rainbows. Worms have been a popular choice for the bait fisherman. Lures anglers are choosing to fish paddle tail plastics in glittery colours and spoons.

Great Lake

Although very cold at this time of year the big lake has been fishing very well. Heavier Shallow running bibbed minnows like Zipbait Rigge 70 rolled slowly is working well with anglers reporting most of the action is later in the day when the water warms up a bit. There is a great article in the winter 25 edition of FlyLife on winter fishing at Great Lake.

Bradys Chain

Is open all year round again this year with some lovely rainbows and browns been caught in all 3 lakes. Trolling devils and deeper diving minnows is the most popular option to cover some ground and find fish.
