Rendezvous unites the industry

The inaugural CHAPMAN X TBW Rendezvous lit up the waterfront and brought together all levels of the marine industry.

Held Friday 23 May within The Boat Works' superyacht yard, the CHAPMAN X TBW Rendezvous for crew and industry illuminated the beach and The Watersheds at the 55-acre facility.

The balmy evening was filled with strobe lights, pulsing beats from the DJ booth, fire-twirlers, stilt walkers, an impressive display of classic cars, superyachts moored at the marina, and coconuts filled with a heady brew in celebration of the strengths, achievements and unique camaraderie of the Australian marine industry.

More than 620 guests carved up the sandy beach and grassy dancefloor to tunes mixed by two energetic DJs who spanned the generations in the music they played.

Apprentices and industry leaders mixed and mingled with yacht owners, company directors and crew, all dancing the night away and dining on savoury morsels from Kokomo Kitchen + Bar. A bevvy of Marina Maids handed out much-needed Cheeseburgers during the evening, and were happy to pose for selfies with everybody!

Cooper Chapman, CEO of CHAPMAN, in collaboration with Tony Longhurst, owner of The Boat Works, hosted the Rendezvous, supported by "dream team" of high-profile sponsors.

Darren Dench, CEO and Director at Integ Marine Group, specialists in marine glazing, said the event was "mind blowing".

"We are 100 percent happy with the event! It was a thrill to be involved as a sponsor and bring all levels of the industry together," he commented.

"So often in our daily work, we interact, either in person or via email, but we don't know each other personally. It was great to meet people we've had a relationship with for years, but have never met. That kind of connection is extremely important in our industry as it adds to the level of trust and assurance that creates reliability and quality workmanship."

BIA CEO, Andrew Fielding, said "The Crew and Industry Rendezvous was a fantastic demonstration of what makes our industry so unique.

"Well done to Chapman Yachting and The Boat Works for delivering an event that strengthens industry relationships and showcases the innovation and community spirit that will drive us forward.

"It was inspiring to see so many levels of the marine sector come together - from boat builders and brokers to suppliers and service professionals - all collaborating and celebrating our shared passion for boating."

Cooper Chapman, who heads CHAPMAN, the premier service and refit-based company, offering a comprehensive, 360-degree service to the yachting industry, explained there are three key reasons underlying this event.

"Our main aim was to showcase this world-class facility, which stands above anything available in the southern hemisphere and allows us to achieve the pinnacle in yacht service, upgrades and modifications.

"We sought to raise awareness, both nationally and internationally, about what's possible right here. I've visited shipyards all over the world, and what we have on our doorstep is undoubtedly world-class."

"The second important objective of the event was to recognise and showcase the local trades and suppliers who give their all and apply their skills to every vessel that arrives at The Boat Works.

"The capabilities of the resident trades and suppliers here are phenomenal," said Cooper.

"For our clients, the sky truly is the limit. Whether that's complex refits or precision modifications, the quality is consistently gold standard."

The third facet is to nurture industry cohesion and inspire the next generation, as Cooper outlined.

"Our industry can become segmented at times, between owners, crew, service providers and events. We believe that in today's world, our approach should be collaborative. The power of many far outweighs the power of one.

"We also want to inspire the next generation of crew, tradespeople and industry professionals. The opportunities in this industry are endless. Here at The Boat Works, you can start a career in any field, from engineering or refits to charter, and take it as far as you wish, providing you're willing to work. If you're committed, then the rewards flow."

Cooper thanked his team and CHAPMAN directors, saying "Your commitment, passion and attention to detail are what make every project possible and every day a pleasure."

"Sam, CHAPMAN Gold Coast Director, you have been a friend since Maritime College and with us since 2019. You are a rock for the region. Deb, Director of Charter & Recruitment (NSW) and with us since 2017; you light up the office daily, and your sharp wit keeps us on our toes.

"Lawson, Director of Shipyard & Maintenance (NSW), on board since 2011. Your dedication is unmatched, and you're a mentor to many and a true friend. Nicole, a recent addition, you've executed the event flawlessly - no stone left unturned. We're lucky to have you.

"To the rest of our team: thank you for everything you do, day in and day out.

"The success of the Rendezvous, through its impact and the immediate return of sponsors committed to the 2026 event, show us that we are on the right track.

"Let's keep building, collaborating and celebrating this incredible industry. Onwards and upwards!"
