Vintage sailing returns to Venice for the Principality of Monaco Trophy

Venice awaits the return of the most beautiful historic boats of the Adriatic on the occasion of the twelfth edition of the Principality of Monaco Trophy, the Vintage Sails in the Lagoon, BNL Cup, BNP Paribas Wealth Management, Aon Special Award.

The regatta, reserved for vintage boats only, was presented today at a press conference at Ca' Farsetti in the Sala Giunta Piccola. The event is promoted by Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Venice and will take place under the sports direction of Mirko Sguario, president of the Yacht Club Venezia.

The program includes two regattas on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June in the waters in front of the Lido di Venezia at 1.00 pm, while on Sunday morning at 11.00 am, before the start of the second race, the boats will parade for the traditional sailing in the San Marco Basin visible along the Rive by the public. The awards ceremony will take place at the Arsenale at approximately 6.00 pm. The results of the individual races will compete for the assignment of the Coppa A.I.V.E. dell'Adriatico 2025 while the prizes for the winners will be offered by the historic Murano glassworks Barovier & Toso, whose origins date back to 1295.

The XII Principality of Monaco Trophy will be open to Vintage Yachts (before 1950), Classic Yachts (1950-1975), replicas of "Vintage Yachts" and "Classic Yachts", Sciarrelli (designed by Carlo Sciarrelli), the typical Passere and the IOR Legend (1967-1990 prototypes or series). In the Open group, divided into Categories 1 and 2, boats built in the "spirit of tradition" respectively before 1950 and before 1975, without a valid AIVE tonnage certificate, will be able to compete. Among the boats already registered are the Sciarrelli Aglaja from 1964, Acantia from 1971 and the multi-victorious Naïf from 1973 by Ivan Gardini, a historic boat also commanded in the past by the legend of Italian sailing Cino Ricci. Debut on the Venetian regatta course for the over a century-old Fantàsia, a 10 Metre International Tonnage Class (16.88 metres long) launched in 1914 by the Norwegian shipyard Anker & Jensen.

The XII Principality of Monaco Trophy is organized in collaboration with the Circolo Velico PortodiMare, Salone Nautico Venezia, Vela Spa and benefits from the patronage of Le Città in Festa and A.I.V.E.
