Five dinghies from Aquarius SC, eight from Desborough and five from Hampton SC gathered on May 31st for the Inter Club contest to decide this year's 'Mid Thames' champions.

A diversity of handicapped dinghy classes took to the Hampton Riviera reach including one Merlin (HSC - H Bowen Perkins), six Lasers swiftly led by Samuel Clancy (Desborough SC), three Solos led by Richard Cololard (Desborough), two Bosuns led by N. Knowles & B.Clements (Aquarius SC), four Comet Versas led by George Bell (HSC), one British Moth (Desborough) and one Foxer (Aquarius) - Graham Thompson.

The conditions were good with SW winds usually above five knots and frequently around eight. The first race was a lengthier course up and down which H.Perkins in the Merlin took advantage of by flying the only spinnaker in the fleet. He took first from James Clancy in the British Moth who came second on handicap.. The next two races were shorter and favoured the British Moth who came first in both, over the Merlin who nevertheless predictably took line honours. Samuel Clancy in the Laser 173611 was outstanding with a fourth and two seconds and earned his team an overall third.

Only three boats with the lowest scores from each club count towards the overall team competition. Thus the total team points were

Desborough SC - Mid Thames Trophy Winners
J. Clancy- British Moth 4 points
S. Clancy - Laser 8 points
O. Lay - Laser Radial 15 points

Hampton SC - Second
H Perkins - Merlin Rocket - 8 points
G. Bell - Comet Versa - 15 points
J.Bay - Comet Versa - 38 points

Aquarius SC- Third
J. Evans - Laser- 36 points
S. Pischke- Laser - 44 points
G.Thomson - Foxer - 45 points

Both prizes for lowest scoring individual boat and lowest scoring single hander went to James Clancy (Desborough) in a British Moth.

Austyn Bowen-Perkins (age 7, Merlin crew) took one junior prize and Sam Clancy (Laser) took the other.
