YachtsandYachting.com have been following a young para-athlete, Jazz Turner, on a quest to become the first female wheelchair user to complete a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation of the British Isles (including Ireland and the Shetland Islands).
Project FEAR, as she calls it, is intended raise £30,000 for Newhaven & Seaford Sailability to provide new boats and assistive technology.
Today (2nd June) she left Brighton Marina, velcro-ed to the windward side, to begin the epic voyage.
At the moment of launch she was already hitting £14,000 of that £30,000 target, which is amazing! If you want to be even more amazed, read online the backstory of her life, medical challenges and more.... all far too much for a young girl who ought to be allowed to simply enjoy racing a high-performance dinghy.
But Jazz is the sort of person to work incredibly hard to share the joy and freedom of sailing with other people. We think this is a beautiful thing, and we wish her every success in completing her voyage, maintaining her health, smashing her fundraising goal, and returning in triumph!
Keep an eye on projectfear.uk for any video updates Jazz can send in (depending on offshore internet connection), plus you can follow her on GPS tracking.
Please make a donation if you can. All money donated goes to buying new boats and servo kits for the Newhaven & Seaford Sailability centre; nothing to Jazz personally.
