The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team concluded its participation in the 44Cup Porto Cervo with heads held high and another important step forward in its journey within the demanding RC44 circuit. Although the final results did not reflect the full extent of the effort and dedication invested, the team delivered key tactical and competitive moments that confirm its continued evolution.
The highlight of the day came during the third race, when the Spanish team rounded the top mark in first place after a brilliant start. The move was the result of sharp tactical reading and a fierce battle between Team Nika and Artemis Racing, which opened a lane for Lanzarote to take the lead. Unfortunately, a poorly timed knot in the gennaker prevented the sail from deploying properly, blocking the manoeuvre and ultimately leading to a penalty after the team inadvertently impeded Team Aqua. What could have been a strong podium finish quickly turned into a last-place result.
"It was our most promising moment of the week, but the gennaker knot took us out of the game in just a few seconds. Sometimes, sport can be that cruel. But what matters is that we were exactly where we should be—leading the fleet and in the fight," reflected Alfredo González, the team's tactician.
Throughout the week, the team remained true to its identity: racing with ambition, sailing with elegance, and proudly representing Lanzarote and Spain. In an event marked by highly variable conditions—from light breezes to Sunday's powerful mistral—the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team showed adaptability, unity on board, and moments of outstanding tactical execution.
The team competes with the valued support of Turismo Lanzarote, Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo de Lanzarote (CACT), Calero Marinas, Calmar, Lanzarote Investment, and John Woods Real Estate—partners who believe in sport as a platform for visibility and international positioning. On the technical side, the team is backed by Harken (through Equipyacht) and Gottifredi Maffioli, as well as Alegra Travel as their official travel partner.
With their sights now set on the next event in Marstrand, Sweden, the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team leaves Porto Cervo confident in its place among the best—not only through results, but through attitude, resilience, and courage on the water.
