Round 3 of the YachtsandYachting.com Racing Series took place over the weekend of the 3rd & 4th May, with the sailing team from The University of Cambridge dominating Round 3.

Saturday started with a light North Westerly breeze and a windward /leeward course in the shallower waters off the Isle of Wight north shore. Unfortunately the breeze proved to be extremely fickle and with an increasing east going tide the race became a driftathon. Eventually 'Sunsail Solaris' (HSBC) were the only boat that managed to reach the finish line of the shortened course.

Further racing was postponed until a Northerly breeze established itself in the afternoon with 3 short windward/leeward races being completed. 'Yachtmarket.com' (University of Cambridge) dominated with three wins with the other podium placings going to Southampton Sailing Week (Roger Stoney), Magenta Project (University of Oxford) and Sunsail Solaris.

Sunday dawned and the Northerly breeze had increased to a decent F3 with gusts giving some excellent sailing conditions in less tide and flat water.

Three round-the-cans races were held and the well drilled crew on Yachtmarket.com continued their winning ways, each victory being marked by their on board piper! The other podium places were fought out between Sunsail Solaris and Southampton Sailing Week with the later edging second overall by 1 point.

The University of Cambridge commented - "Cambridge had a fantastic (and sunny) weekend of racing as part of our annual Varsity race against Oxford; we enjoyed some fun races and are very pleased with the results. This is the second time Prometheus has hosted our Varsity regatta, and we look forward to many more! Thank you to Oxford and all other participants for a weekend of great racing. Huge thanks to the race committee and everyone else at Prometheus for organising and running two days of solid races."
