7-22 May 2025
The ORC Mediterranean Championship, the opening act of the 2025 Tre Golfi Sailing Week, concluded today in spectacular style.
With bright sunshine and a steady 10-knot westerly breeze, the waters between Sorrento and Capri provided a breathtaking backdrop for the fifth and final race of the series.
The event, organized by Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia in collaboration with Yacht Club Italiano, Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia, IMA, ORC, FIV, and UVAI, and supported by Rolex Official Timepiece, Loro Piana, and other technical and institutional partners, welcomed 30 boats from six nations. It awarded both the National Title for Central and Southern Tyrrhenian and, for those competing in the offshore 70th Regata dei Tre Golfi on 16 May, points towards the overall ORC Mediterranean Champion title.
The ideal conditions enabled the Race Committee to run a final, well-managed race with clean starts and just the right pressure for competitive and tactical sailing. The wallyrocket51 Team Django delivered a dominant performance in today's race, crossing the finish line with nearly an entire downwind leg of advantage. It marks a significant victory for this new Wally Yachts project, earning the team their first win. Joining them on the podium are Confluence, the GP42 skippered by Jean-Pierre Joly of France, and To Be, the Italia Yachts 11.98 helmed by Stefano Rusconi, representing Yacht Club Italiano.
"It's a fantastic feeling because it's been a long journey from the first concept of this boat - designing it, building it, launching it, and making sure every detail was right," said an emotional Guillermo Parada, strategist of Team Django. "Seeing the concept work, the boat performs as expected, and improve every day is hugely rewarding. Today's race was very special - we led from the start and held our margin all the way through. It's my first time in Sorrento and I've been blown away by its beauty. This has been a great regatta for us, and we can't wait to come back next year for the ORC World Championship".
In the other divisions, winners include:
- Cruiser/Racer A & B: Raffica by Pasquale Orofino
- Racer Class C: Cavallo Pazzo 2 by Enrico Danielli
- Cruiser/Racer Class C: Cosixty 8 by Salvatore Casolaro
The ORC Mediterranean Championship standings remain open pending the offshore results from the 70th Regata dei Tre Golfi. Confluence will start as the leader with a two-point margin over To Be, followed by Lisa R, the Ker 46 owned by Giovanni Di Vincenzo, past winner of the 2023 edition.
There was great satisfaction dockside for the technical balance across the five races, with close competition in every division. The event also served as a qualifier for the 2025 ORC Italian National Championship, set for late June in Capo d'Orlando.
The Tre Golfi Sailing Week now moves into its next chapters: the much anticipated 70th Regata dei Tre Golfi, starting Friday 16 May at 16:15 from Naples, followed by the IMA Maxi European Championship, running in Sorrento from 16 to 22 May.
On shore, the Regatta Village at Marina Piccola in Sorrento continued to welcome owners and crews with warm hospitality, thanks to morning breakfasts by Caffè Borbone and the traditional post-race pasta parties by North Sails.
The Tre Golfi Sailing Week is made possible by the support of: Rolex, Loro Piana, North Sails, Wally Yachts, Banca Patrimoni Sella & C., Ferrarelle, Ottogas, Deloitte, Italia Yachts, Le Axidie, Caffè Borbone, Schenker, Miliare and Consorzio Prosecco DOC.
