Cape 31 Med Circuit at COYCH Hyères - Day 1

by Cape 31 Class 9 May 21:59 PDT 9-11 May 2025

Day 1 of the Cape 31 Med Circuit in Hyères began under light winds, delaying the start and resulting in the abandonment of the first race. However, a steady breeze filled in by 14:30, allowing for three competitive races in picturesque Mediterranean conditions.

Darren Wright's Adrenalin opened the season with a commanding win in Race 1. Give Me Five, helmed by Adrien Fallen, secured victory in Race 2, followed by Michael Wilson's Shotgunn taking Race 3.

Shane Hughes, tactician on Adrenalin, said, "We had a pretty inauspicious start having to lift the boat out of the water to change the propellor this morning. But then we won the first race of the day and had one of our best days on the water ever! The forecast looks good for the rest of the series"

Today also marked the Cape 31 Med Circuit debut for new teams Terrible Joy, Stig, and K Force Jr., adding fresh energy to an already strong fleet.

Thomas de Kramer, K Force Jr said, " We excited to be back sailing in the MED, we been here before in the swan but we are really looking forward to this season."

After a long day on the water, sailors gathered at the Yacht Club for evening apéritifs and the daily prize-giving, where winning teams were awarded locally-produced rosé. With stronger winds forecast for the weekend, anticipation is high for a full schedule of exciting racing ahead.
