Blackwater Sailing Club prepares for 2025 Open Day

The Blackwater Sailing Club, one of the leading clubs on the East coast is pleased to announce that Sheena Berney, Commodore, will be hosting the Open Day on Saturday 17th May 2025 and invites members of the public to come along.

The event will be an opportunity for sailors as well as those curious about taking up the sport to meet Sheena and Rear Commodore Joe Bird, learn more about the club's vibrant sailing activities, social events and how to get involved.

Whether you're an experienced sailor or a complete beginner, the Open Day offers something for everyone. Visitors will have the opportunity to:

  • Experience free taster sailing sessions with the experienced instructors on the training lake
  • Tour the sailing facilities and clubhouse
  • Meet and greet with Club officials, club members and instructors
  • Explore the beautiful River Blackwater in RIBs and cruisers when the tide comes in during the afternoon
  • Enjoy light refreshments and mingle with other sailing enthusiasts

"The Open Day will be an exciting opportunity to discover firsthand what makes our Sailing Club such a special family-friendly and fun place," said Sheena. "I'm delighted that after 125 years it is still largely run by wonderful volunteers and we're all looking forward to welcoming visitors and their families, building new connections and sharing our joy and excitement of sailing."

The Open Day is Saturday 17th May 11.30am - 5.30pm. It is free to attend (open to all ages) and no previous experience is required. Please wear trainers if you would like to have a sail, buoyancy aids will be provided. Experienced members will be on hand to provide guidance and information. There is free parking.

Blackwater Snipe Open
12 Snipes for the 2024 South Eastern Championships 12 Snipes came together at Blackwater SC on the River Blackwater to compete for the South Easterns on the 5th and 6th October.
