'Trifork' wins La Larga line honours

by Sandberg PalmaVela 2025 27 Apr 13:18 PDT 25-29 April 2025

At 16:54 today, the VO70 "Trifork" from Real Club Náutico de Palma, skippered by Joern Larsen, crossed the finish line of La Larga after sailing 228 miles in 24 hours and 34 minutes. The rest of the fleet is still competing, so the final winners will be decided once all boats finish, and the corrected time is applied.

La Larga is part of the 21st Sandberg PalmaVela, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma.

At 17:00, "Trifork" crossed the finish line at the entrance of the bay of Palma after over 24 hours of sailing, where they encountered all sorts of weather conditions. They faced winds above 15 knots during the first miles towards Ibiza, to strong showers at Punta Salinas and the calm that the fleet encountered when passing the island of Cabrera.

In real-time, French "Spirit of Lorina" (Jean Pierre Barjon, YCF) follows closely, approaching Porto Colom's mark, while Polish "R6" (Tobert Szustkowski, Polish YC) is near Cabrera, however, both facing very light winds.

Meanwhile, the ORC 0 and 1 fleets, with the same course as IRC, are still racing in the same area as "R6". Leading in their categories are "Azahar" (Herve Grunig, CVP Andratx/YCF) and "Vertigo" (Robert in den Haak, Netherlands), although they still have a long way to go to the finish line.

In the ORC 2 through 5 and double handed classes, the battle is ongoing. With a shorter route, rounding the islet of Tagomago instead of Ibiza and Formentera, as of 18:30, on Sunday, "Alegría" (Pit Fins, DYC) leads in ORC 2-3 in both elapsed and corrected time, already sailing near Punta Salinas.

Further behind, heading towards Porto Colom's mark, "Indigo" (Pedro Siquier, CN Arenal) leads ORC 4-5. While "Modul" (Félix Coma, CN Santa Ponsa) and "Guaguanco IV" (Thierry Lallemand, CN Altea) lead in A2 0-2 and 3-5, respectively.

Once the entire fleet finishes the course, the final results with the corrected time will determine La Larga's new winners. The awards ceremony is scheduled for next Tuesday at 19:00 at RCNP.
