VETUS, the leading developer of onboard boat systems, is delighted to share the latest developments from the acclaimed YouTube stars, Brian and Karin Trautman of SV Delos, as they continue work on their ambitious project to build Delos 2.0, a custom-designed aluminium catamaran, crafted for comfort, resilience, and sustainability.

Having already sailed 85,000 nautical miles across six continents and 50 countries aboard their original vessel, Delos, Brian and Karin are now building their next vessel, Delos 2.0. This expeditionary catamaran is being custom-built with sustainability and long-term cruising in mind. The new Delos Explorer 53 will feature a hybrid-electric propulsion system, and VETUS is playing a vital role in supplying essential components, including the propeller shaft, shaft seal, seawater strainers, exhaust system, and soundproofing, along with a Maxwell RC12 windlass for reliable anchoring.

As the build progresses, the team is integrating environmentally friendly features, such as a large solar array, a rainwater collection system, and a low-maintenance exterior, making the vessel as eco-conscious as possible. With plans to launch Delos 2.0 in early 2026, the pair are in the process of installing additional VETUS systems, including toilets, black water tanks, fuel filtering systems, and tank connections. With each stage, the dream of this next-generation cruising catamaran is becoming a reality.

Now a year into the build, the team has made remarkable progress in creating Delos 2.0. The design phase centred around crafting a robust aluminium catamaran capable of withstanding the harshest ocean conditions. Every detail, from the resilient structure to the hybrid-electric propulsion system, was carefully planned to ensure durability, sustainability, and comfort for long-term exploration.

After twelve weeks of groundwork, significant strides were made with the fabrication and secure placement of frames, hull plates, and the crossbeam. Throughout the process, the VETUS team in Australia has been instrumental, providing not just high quality products such as exhaust and ventilation systems, no smell filters, hoses, fuel filters, and water separators, but also expert installation advice and hands on technical support. Their in depth guidance has ensured each component is properly installed, fully optimized, and seamlessly integrated, laying the foundation for reliable and efficient onboard systems.

As construction progressed, the team shifted focus to the interior. The port-side hull is in the process of being transformed from an aluminium shell into a fully functional living space, with walls and beds now installed. With Karin's expertise in modelling, the team began visualising how their new home on the water would feel. This shift in mindset has led to faster progress, as the team makes important decisions on layout and design. The interior work is now advancing rapidly, bringing Delos 2.0 closer to its planned 2026 launch.

Brian Trautman, from SV Delos, shared: "It's been an absolute pleasure working with the VETUS team on this project. Their expertise and guidance have been instrumental as we navigate our vessel fit-out. No matter the challenge, from exhaust systems to toilets, blackwater tanks, and everything in between, they've consistently provided smart, high-quality solutions tailored to our needs. The product quality has been exceptional, and we couldn't be happier with both the support and results."

Sander Gesink, VETUS Marketing Director, added: "We have really enjoyed watching the build of Delos 2.0 progress, with the team bring to life the ups, downs and most importantly the incredible lifestyle that goes with travelling the world by boat. We hope the wider community find the engaging way they highlight the build including the integration of our systems, useful and empowering. We look forward to watching them take to the water in early 2026!"
