2025 YachtsandYachting.com Racing Series - Round 2

by Terry Hunt 15 Apr 05:16 PDT 12-13 April 2025

Round 2 of the YachtsandYachting.com Racing Series took place over the weekend of 12th & 13th April and was dominated by David Miller (Deloitte) and crew on Sunsail Helios, winning 6 out of the 7 races.

Seven Prometheus 41's took part in this round organised by Prometheus Sailing with racing over the two days in the Easter Solent.

Day 1 provided a light south easterly breeze which never quite managed to match the forecast strength. Combined with a strong tide, this made for some tactical sailing to try to minimise the effect of the tide. 4 simple windward / leeward races were run with a couple of boats failing to finish inside the time limit.

Race 1 saw Sunsail Helios (David Miller) open up a comfortable early lead on the downwind leg only to be overtaken on the final upwind leg to the finish. The strong tide caused the fleet to bunch up near the finish line and eventually Sunsail Zephyr (George Jacques) just managed to finish and take the win. There then followed a scramble for the other placing with Yachtmarket.com (Kaan Konukcu) finishing second and the early leader Sunsail Helios in third.

The breeze fluctuated up and down in strength for the rest of the day but with the tidal flow diminishing, most boats were able to finish within the time limit. Sunsail Helios recorded 3 wins with other podium places being scored by Yachmarket, Magenta Project (Geoff Johns) and Sunsail Helios.

Day 2 and the breeze was now from the southwest and looking a very sailable F3/4.

3 longer races were run round the cans with Sunsail Helios again being dominate in all 3. The breeze had picked up for the final race and a sail plan of 1 reef in the mainsail was called. Podium place on the final day were shared again by Yachtmarket, Magenta Project and Sunsail Zephyr.

Sunsail Helios dominated with 6 wins to count, followed by Sunsail Zephyr on 14pts and Yachtmarket.com 3rd on 18pts.
