Charlie Enright appointed as CEO of US Sailing

US Sailing today announced Charlie Enright, an accomplished leader in the sailing industry, as the Association's new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Enright will take the helm of US Sailing, the sport's National Governing Body (NGB), following an extensive national executive search.

His expertise and commitment to excellence will help US Sailing continue its growth and outreach, ensuring a bright future for the sport in the U.S."

Charlie Enright is an accomplished sailor and an advocate of the sport known for his leadership in the offshore racing community. He was a member of the first American team to win The Ocean Race. Enright's career has been defined by his commitment to excellence, sustainability, and inspiring the next generation of American sailors. He co-founded the 11th Hour Racing Team, an initiative dedicated to promoting ocean health and sustainable practices through high-profile sailing campaigns.

Enright's sailing accomplishments include leading the 11th Hour Racing Team to victory in the 2022-23 Ocean Race, becoming the first American team to win the prestigious event. He has also competed in multiple editions of The Ocean Race, previously serving as skipper for Team Alvimedica (2014-15) and Vestas 11th Hour Racing (2017-18).

Enright's leadership has earned him widespread recognition within the sport and beyond. In addition to his success on the water, he has been a vocal advocate for sustainability in the sailing world. In 2023, Enright was named the Rolex Yachtsman of the Year, one of the highest honors in the sport, for having demonstrated on-the-water excellence at international and national events, earning his place in the history of sailing. He was also inducted into the Brown University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024 for his outstanding achievements in both sailing and leadership.

Enright graduated from Brown University with a degree in Business and Economics in 2008. He served as captain of the university's sailing team, and was named four-time Honorable Mention All-American Coed Skipper,?where he honed his leadership skills and deepened his passion for the sport.

As the organization's leader, Enright will work closely with the Board of Directors, professional staff, and volunteers to develop and implement US Sailing's goals, support membership and fundraising initiatives, manage a multitude of programming and partnerships, and provide strategic leadership to grow the sport of sailing across the U.S.

Enright was born and raised in Bristol, Rhode Island, a town where his grandfather used to build cruising boats. He currently resides in Barrington, Rhode Island, with his wife, Meris, and their children, Thomas and Maggie who all enjoy the wonders of sailing on the water.
