Tenzor International Cup - J/70 Open Winter Series 2024-2025 - Stage 5 Day 1

by Burak Zengin 11 Apr 22:54 PDT 10-13 April 2025

It was an impressive first racing day in Aspat Bay with 21 J/70 boats fighting in very fresh wind. The conditions were at the top end, with plenty of action at the mark roundings keeping the competitors, and the race committee on edge.

"It was a beautiful day with really great windy conditions. We started with 12-13 knots in first race and in the last race we have got already 22-23 knots. During the 3 races passed Russian Bogatyrs, Tenzor Team and Nautique Yachting organized a really good fighting on the water for the leading positions. Finally, Bogatyrs took advantage over the rivals. We came back to the shore really happy, because all sailors did excited races. For some boats 3rd race was difficult with broachings and too much flying. But this adrenalin made everybody to be satisfied and hope we will continue with same feelings for the next two racing days", - commented Burak Zengin, head of Organizing Committee.

A superb start by Bogatyrs brought them to the top of the standings with 5 points (3-1-1). Nautique Yachting became second with 7 points and was showing impressive speed. They won first race, finished 4th in second and 2nd in last one. Tenzor Team holds 3rd position with 13 points (5-5-3).

"It was a windy day and as team due to our weight we prefer mid/heavy winds and we had a great 1st race. On second race we had a major issue during the first downwind while we were third became 10th at the bottom mark however we had a major come back and finished 4th at the finish. In the last race it was a very heavy wind and we managed to finish second. As a result we are very happy with the results and hope to keep the consistency in the following days", - said Onur Erardag, helmsman of Nautique Yachting.

Teenage, Hubex, Gaswar did a great job, jumping into the top-6. Orient Express finished 1st in Corinthian and 10th overall.

"It was a really fun day - fast, sometimes really difficult to sail the boat because really strong passes were coming. The fleet quality is really high, it makes very interesting races. Whenever you make a little mistake you see 5 boats pass you immediately and in opposite way. I think the RC made a good job. For example, on the last race when the wind shifted to the left they immediately changed the mark, so it made a fair game. We are happy with very good weather, not so cold, not hot, will see how it goes tomorrow", - commented Arif Gurdenli, skipper of Orient Express.

Due to broach, Happyhour JR had to retire from last race, but managed to show an impressive 2nd result in 1st race.

"Wind was good and high for us. In the first race we showed 2nd place, on the second race all was going well, but then we got broach and we could not get out of it. We got some broken parts on our boats, but we tried to go to the next race, but it was another broach, so we could not finish 3rd race. Tomorrow will be a new day and we are ready for it!", - marked Erman Ayvaz, skipper of Happyhour JR.

More races and more pressure will be waiting for the participants in the next two race days.
