29-30 March 2025
Congratulations go to our recently restored champion Tumlaren, Yvonne, for her take out of the 2025 series silver. All up, Yvonne took out the RMYS T. L. Banks One design trophy, the Bert Ferris Performance trophy and the James Frecheville trophy.
We know nothing is easy in yacht titles racing.
Yvonne, under the helm of Dave Allen made it look easy. It wasn't. It was the continual easing and hardening of the main sheet by Aaron Cole of North Sails that kept the mainsail slot even and high which gave Yvonne the drive to best the infamous Port Phillip chop. Fast kite sets and late drops by Ollie Grieve, the 19 years old International Cadet skipper on Day one and by Oscar Perri on Day two gave Yvonne the vital extra kite time on the run legs of each race.
With his pedigree of 30 Sydney to Hobarts, years of sail design and testwing for Denis Conner and the Italian America's Cup Campaigns in San Diego and a Whitbread Race with his mainsail trimmer, Aaron Cole of North Sails, Yvonne skipper Dave Allen was no minor bit player in the Yvonne clean-up of the 2025 State Titles silver.
Results for each race saw close corrected times between the minor placing for each race. Overall Dingo and Skipjack took out the series one design minor placings. The corrected time minor placings went to Dingo and Snow Goose. The Knud Reimer trophy (best performer last race) went to Snow Goose. Dingo took out the Doug Jenkin Trophy for the best perseverance performance of the series and Ettrick took out the CYAA Presidents Trophy for the best start of the series.
The Cape Breton Fisherman jacket take home trophies, sponsored by Southern Woodenboat Sailing (SWS), went to Yvonne and Ettrick.
Special Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron trophies went to first three corrected time placing of each race.
Race One Yvonne, Dingo and Snow Goose.
Race Two Yvonne, Skipjack and Dingo.
Race Three Snow Goose, Dingo and Yvonne.
Reports, from our seasoned but not pickled on water observer, indicated, with a degree of objectivity, the series as the highest standard of wooden boat racing seen on Port Phillip over the last twenty years.
One first timer introduced to Tumlaren racing on Port Phillip as crew on Dingo was the noted Tasmanian D Class Skipper, James Cowmeadow.
