The opening day of the 29er EuroCup Slovenia in Koper proved to be a true test of skill and endurance, as competitors battled intense wind conditions on the Adriatic.

The north-east wind, initially blowing at 13 knots, quickly built to 20 knots, with gusts reaching up to 26 knots, pushing sailors and their boats to the limit.

Despite the challenging conditions, the regatta committee managed to complete one race, but only the toughest young sailors successfully crossed the finish line. Just nine crews from each fleet (red and green) finished the race, demonstrating remarkable determination and resilience.

After a dramatic first day, the top five teams in the standings are:

1) ITA 6 - G. Montesano / E. Coslovich (M)
2) FRA 4 - N. Huet Des Aunay / G. Titouan (M)
3) POL 963 - J. Mucharski / K. Pencil (M)
4) SWE 3008 - E. Lagerstrand / M. Bondjers (Mix)
5) HUN 18 - B. Fehér / S. Fehér (F)

With stronger winds forecasted, the competition is expected to remain intense in the coming days. Sailors will have to stay sharp as they navigate through unpredictable conditions, fighting for the prestigious 29er EuroCup title.

Stay tuned as the action continues on Day 2!
