Next Vic-Maui International Yacht Race planned for the summer of 2028

Vic-Maui, first raced in 1965, has a long and storied history that is intertwined with that of its two co-host Clubs. Since 1968, Vic-Maui has been co-hosted biennially in even-numbered years by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and the Lahaina Yacht Club.

Significant external events have challenged Vic-Maui in recent years.

  • The first-ever cancellation of Vic-Maui was forced in 2020 by the Covid pandemic and related travel restrictions.
  • Vic-Maui was sailed successfully in 2022.
  • The 2024 Vic-Maui was cancelled as a result of the devasting wildfires in Lahaina which occurred in August 2023.

We had initially hoped, despite considerable uncertainty resulting from the unprecedented wildfire disaster, that it would be possible to run the next Vic-Maui in 2026. However, after careful consideration of the communities and conditions that would make it advisable to resume racing to Maui, we have concluded that the right thing to do is to run the next Vic-Maui in the summer of 2028. This conclusion is supported by both of our co-host yacht clubs and their respective Commodores.

The Vic-Maui community, including competitors, volunteers, clubs, sponsors, fans, and other supporters, have been proactive and generous in supporting recovery and rebuilding at LYC and in Lahaina. Thank you for your continued support.

To stay in touch with Vic-Maui, you can visit our website vicmaui.org, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and subscribe to email newsletter Shackles & Cotterpins.

We look forward to sailing the next Vic-Maui in the summer of 2028.
